PM10 dust emission in the Erenhot-Huailai zone of northern China based on model simulation 认领 引用

The Erenhot-Huailai zone, as an important dust emission source area in northern China, affects the air quality of Beijing City, Tianjin City, and Hebei Province and human activities in this zone have a profound impact on surface dust emission. In order to explore the main source areas of surface dust emission and quantify the impacts of human activities on surface dust emission, we investigated the surface dust emission of different land types on the Erenhot-Huailai zone by model simulation, field observation, and comparative analysis. The results showed that the average annual inhalable atmospheric particles(PM10) dust emission fluxes in arid grassland, Hunshandake Sandy Land, semi-arid grassland,semi-arid agro-pastoral area, dry sub-humid agro-pastoral area, and semi-humid agro-pastoral area were 4.41, 0.71, 3.64, 1.94, 0.24, and 0.14 t/hm2, respectively, and dust emission in these lands occurred mainly from April to May. Due to the influence of human activities on surface dust emission, dust emission fluxes from different land types were 1.66–4.41 times greater than those of their background areas, and dust emission fluxes from the main dust source areas were 1.66–3.89 times greater than those of their background areas. According to calculation, the amount of PM10 dust emission influenced by human disturbance accounted for up to 58.00% of the total dust emission in the study area. In addition, the comparative analysis of model simulation and field observation results showed that the simulated and observed dust emission fluxes were relatively close to each other, with differences ranging from 0.01 to 0.21 t/hm2 in different months, which indicated that the community land model version 4.5(CLM4.5) had a high accuracy. In conclusion, model simulation results have important reference significance for identifying dust source areas and quantifying the contribution of human activities to surface dust emission. 展开更多

The degradation of micropollutants in water via ultraviolet(UV)-based advanced oxidation processes(AOPs)is strongly dependent on the water matrix.Various reactive radicals(RRs)formed in UV-AOPs have different reaction selectivities toward water matrices and degradation efficiencies for target micropollutants.Hence,process selection and optimization are crucial.This study developed a facilitated prediction method for the photon fluence-based rate constant for micropollutant degradation(K′p,MP)in various UV-AOPs by combining model simulation with portable measurement.Portable methods for measuring the scavenging capacities of the principal RRs(RRSCs)involved in UV-AOPs(i.e.,HO·,SO4·-,and Cl·)using a mini-fluidic photoreaction system were proposed.The simulation models consisted of photochemical,quantitative structure–activity relationship,and radical concentration steady-state approximation models.The RRSCs were determined in eight test waters,and a higher RRSC was found to be associated with a more complex water matrix.Then,by taking sulfamethazine,caffeine,and carbamazepine as model micropollutants,the k′p,MP values in various UV-AOPs were predicted and further verified experimentally.A lower k′p,MP was found to be associated with a higher RRSC for a stronger RR competition;for example,k′p,MP values of 130.9 and 332.5 m2 einstein–1,respectively,were obtained for carbamazepine degradation by UV/H2O2 in the raw water(RRSC=9.47×104 s-1)and sand-filtered effluent(RRSC=2.87×104 s-1)of a drinking water treatment plant.The developed method facilitates process selection and optimization for UV-AOPs,which is essential for increasing the efficiency and cost-effectiveness of water treatment. 展开更多

Deep convection in the Labrador Sea is confined within a small region in the southwest part of the basin.The strength of deep convection in this region is related to the local atmospheric and ocean characteristics,which favor processes of deep convection preconditioning and intense air-sea exchange during the winter season.In this study,we explored the effect of eddy-induced flux transport on the stratification of the Labrador Sea and the properties of deep convection.Simulations from an eddy-resolving ocean model are presented for the Labrador Sea.The general circulation was well simulated by the model,including the seasonal cycle of the deep Labrador Current.The simulated distribution of the surface eddy kinetic energy was also close to that derived from Topex-Poseidon satellite altimeter data,but with smaller magnitude.The energy transfer diagnostics indicated that Irminger rings are generated by both baroclinic and barotropic processes; however,when they propagate into the interior basin,the barotropic process also disperses them by converting the eddy energy to the mean flow.In contrast to eddy-permitting simulations,deep convection in the Labrador Sea was better represented in the eddyresolving model regarding their lateral position.Further analysis indicated that the improvement might be due to the lateral eddy flux associated with the resolved Irminger rings in the eddy-resolving model,which contributes to a realistic position of the isopycnal dome in the Labrador Sea and correspondingly a realistic site of deep convection. 展开更多

Long-term memory(LTM)in the climate system has been well recognized and applied in different research fields,but the origins of this property are still not clear.In this work,the authors contribute to this issue by studying model simulations under different scenarios.The global mean temperatures from pre-industrial control runs(pi Control),historical(all forcings)simulations,natural forcing only simulations(Historical Nat),greenhouse gas forcing only simulations(Historical GHG),etc.,are analyzed using the detrended fluctuation analysis.The authors find that the LTM already exists in the pi Control simulations,indicating the important roles of internal natural variability in producing the LTM.By comparing the results among different scenarios,the LTM from the piControl runs is further found to be strengthened by adding natural forcings such as the volcanic forcing and the solar forcing.Accordingly,the observed LTM in the climate system is suggested to be mainly controlled by both the‘internal’natural variability and the‘external’natural forcings.The anthropogenic forcings,however,may weaken the LTM.In the projections from RCP2.6 to RCP8.5,a weakening trend of the LTM strength is found.In view of the close relations between the climate memory and the climate predictability,a reduced predictability may be expected in a warming climate. 展开更多

Kuwait's shrimp fishery presents typical tropical shrimp fishery characteristics with highly variable recruitment, fast growth and strong seasonal patterns. Both the General Production Model and Age-structured Model were chosen to assess the stock status of the Kuwait's shrimp fishery. The estimated Maximum Sustainable Yield(MSY) was 2 518 metric ton(t) with a corresponding fishing eff orts( f MSY) 7 265 standard boat-days from the General Production Model. Similar results from the Age-structured Model were 1 936 t and 6 449 boat-days respectively. Comparing these results with the average annual shrimp landings(1 772 t) and average fishing eff ort(9 710 boat-days) in the past 10 years, we concluded that the fishery was overfished. Model simulations to show the changes of recruitment, biomass and possible catch under different fishing eff ort scenarios indicated possible stock collapse if the fishing eff ort continually increase. But both shrimp recruitment and biomass will increase if the current fishing eff ort is reduced. Model simulations also showed a possible increase of MSY by delaying the opening or by closing the season earlier. Based on these results, recommendations to improve the management of Kuwait's shrimp fishery are presented. 展开更多

The capacitively coupled radio frequency(CCRF)plasma has been widely used in various fields.In some cases,it requires us to estimate the range of key plasma parameters simpler and quicker in order to understand the behavior in plasma.In this paper,a glass vacuum chamber and a pair of plate electrodes were designed and fabricated,using 13.56 MHz radio frequency(RF)discharge technology to ionize the working gas of Ar.This discharge was mathematically described with equivalent circuit model.The discharge voltage and current of the plasma were measured atdifferent pressures and different powers.Based on the capacitively coupled homogeneous discharge model,the equivalent circuit and the analytical formula were established.The plasma density and temperature were calculated by using the equivalent impedance principle and energy balance equation.The experimental results show that when RF discharge power is 50–300 W and pressure is 25–250 Pa,the average electron temperature is about 1.7–2.1 e V and the average electron density is about 0.5?×10^17–3.6?×10^17m^-3.Agreement was found when the results were compared to those given by optical emission spectroscopy and COMSOL simulation. 展开更多

A non-equilibrium chromatographic rate model was employed to simulate the affinity chromatography of urokinase. The chromatography process was developed to a yield of high purity product of urokinase from crude materials. The affinity gel used in the process was prepared by an epichlorohydrin-activation method using epichlorohydrin activated Sepharose 4B as a matrix and p-aminobenzamidine as a ligand. The chromatographic process were numerically simulated and analyzed with the aid of VERSE-LC computer simulator. Considering the basic principles, rate model with the back mixing in column inlet was utilized in simulating and studying the effect of the column inlet pattern on other parameters. Comparison of the simulation results with the experimental data showed that the rate model can be used to describe the affinity chromatography of urokinase in a fixed bed column with satisfactory accuracy. 展开更多

This study assesses vulnerability of agriculture to drought, using WINISAREG model and seasonal SPI2-index for eight climate regions (1951-2004). Results relative to Plovdiv show that in soils of large TAW (total available water) net irrigation requirements NIRs range from 0 to 380 mm. In soils of small TAW, NIRs reach 440 mm in the very dry year. NIRs in Sofia/Silistra are about 100 mm smaller than in Plovdiv while in Sandanski they are 30-110 mm larger. Rainfed maize is associated with great yield variability (29% 〈 Cv 〈 72%). Considering an economical RYD (relative yield decrease) threshold, 32% of years are risky when TA Wis large in Plovdiv that is double than in Sofia and half than in Sandanski. In North Bulgaria the risky years are 10% in Pleven/Silistra that is half than in Lom. In Plovdiv region reliable relationships (R2 〉 91%) were found relating the SPI2 "July-Aug." with simulated RYD of rainfed maize while remaining relationships were less accurate (73% 〈 R2 〈 86%). Economical losses are produced when High Peak Season SPI2 〈 + 0.20 in Sandanski, SPI2 〈 - 0.50 in Plovdiv and SPI2 〈 - 0.90 in Sofia. In North Bulgaria the SPI2 threshold ranges from - 0.75 to - 1.50. Derived reliable relationships and SPl-thresholds are used for drought vulnerability mapping. 展开更多

Coordinating urban development with the protection of water resources is a serious global challenge faced by countries worldwide.This study constructed the coupled Water Ecological Security Pattern-Future Land Use Simulation(WESP-FLUS) model by integrating methods for identifying water–ecological sensitive areas and simulating land use type changes.Taking the Lanzhou-Baiyin metropolitan area in arid region of northwestern China as a case study,this research simulated land use patterns in 2030 under four development scenarios(natural development,urban economic optimization,ecological conservation priority,and urban-water coordinated development scenarios).The results identified 109.81 km2 of water–ecological source areas and 43 water–ecological corridors with a total length of 1255.4 km.Predicted land use patterns for 2030 displayed diverse trends,constrained by water–ecological sensitive areas across different scenarios,with urban built-up land mainly expanding radially around the central urban axis.The urban-water coordinated development scenario was the optimal solution that meets both urban development needs and water–ecological protection objectives.The urban built-up land could reach 546.68 km2 in 2030,representing a 91.39 km2 increase compared to 2020.This study aims to improve spatial planning methods under the “determining cities by water” concept,scientifically supporting territorial spatial planning and providing theoretical support for the coupling of urban development and natural environment in water-scarce arid regions. 展开更多

Feeding the growing global population necessitates increased agricultural production,yet agriculture remains a vulnerable sector facing significant challenges from limited land resources,environment,and climatic constraints.To enhance agricultural productivity and farm profitability,it is crucial to quantify the interactions among soil,plant growth,environmental factors,and management practices.This aids policymakers and farmers in making informed decisions to mitigate risks associated with agricultural productivity.The advent of BIG-DATA in agriculture and various crop simulation modeling approaches at multiple spatiotemporal scales offers valuable insights into seasonal and in-field soil-crop variability,enabling accurate crop yield,and quality estimation.Agricultural models serve as essential tools for management and planning,facilitating the adaptation of new technologies to site-specific factors such as climate,soils,and cropping patterns.Despite their importance,there is a lack of comprehensive understanding regarding the principles,utility,and challenges of these crop models.This review critically evaluates the utility,simulation processes,datasets,predictability,advantages,and disadvantages of diverse crop simulation modeling approaches.It examines the current state-of-the-art agricultural systems models and their implications for crop management,growth forecasting,nutrient management,and yield prediction,highlighting complex interactions between agro-meteorology,soil,and crops across different scales.Furthermore,it addresses future challenges for agricultural system models in the context of climate change and environmental shifts,underscoring the necessity for additional research.The emergence of BIG-DATA and high-performance computing in agricultural simulation modeling presents new challenges that demand innovative solutions to improve forecasting and mitigate production risks caused by environmental constraints and associated stresses. 展开更多

This study proposes a multi-scale research approach that integrates micro-characterization experiments and 3D cellular automata(CA)simulations to investigate the intergranular corrosion(IGC)behavior of equiaxed grains in the fusion zone(FZ)of laser-welded joints of Al-Cu-Li alloys under acidic conditions.Combined with microscopic characterizations such as SEM and TEM,the significant segregation phe-nomenon of grain boundaries in the FZ of the laser welded joint of 2195-T8 aluminum-lithium alloy was revealed,and the typical morphologies of IGC in the FZ under two different concentrations of nitric acid were compared.Compared to the traditional CA model,the proposed approach uses the Voronoi method combined with experimental characterization data to reconstruct a polycrystalline micro-structural model.For the first time,the effects of grain boundary segregation and localized corrosion intensity on corrosion morphologies were incorporated.A CA model comprising seven cell types and five evolution rules was systematically developed,enabling the simulation of both overall uniform corrosion and localized grain boundary dissolution,as well as corrosion channel propagation in the FZ under acidic conditions.By employing neural network based parameter fitting,the model accurately captures the IGC depth evolution and the expansion characteristics of corrosion channels,thereby reproducing the local damage morphologies of the FZ after immersion corrosion.This study provides theoretical support for corrosion-resistant design of high-strength aluminum alloy welded joints and holds significant engineering value in enhancing the service life of aluminum components. 展开更多

Objective:Congenital nasolacrimal duct obstruction(CNLDO)affects 5%-20%of infants.Lacrimal sac massage is considered the first-line therapy for CNLDO,yet there is a lack of quantitative comparisons among different massage techniques.The aim of this study is to quantitatively evaluate the changes in hydrostatic pressure at the inferior nasolacrimal duct(NLD)orifice during the application of different lacrimal sac massage techniques for CNLDO,using a validated simulation model.Methods:This was an experimental biomechanical study that used a CNLDO model equipped with sensors.The simulation was conducted in a laboratory setting at an academic ophthalmology center.First,seven expert ophthalmologists validated the model,and then three of them performed the massage techniques.A total of four massage techniques were applied:Technique Ⅰ(Horizontal),Technique Ⅱ(Vertical),Technique Ⅲ(45°Oblique),Technique Ⅳ(Crigler’s,inferomedial).The primary outcome measure was the hydrostatic pressure(mmHg)at the lower NLD orifice during the application of each massage technique.Secondary measures included force vectors and the degree of compression of the common canaliculus.Results:The Crigler’s technique(Ⅳ)generated the highest median and maximum hydrostatic pressure at the lower NLD orifice,followed by Technique Ⅲ(45°oblique).In contrast,Techniques Ⅰ and Ⅱ produced significantly lower pressures.Sensor data collected during the application of maximal Crigler’s pressure(0.7 N at NLD orifice)showed several key findings.There was a concurrent force>0.3 N over the common canaliculus,which effectively prevented reflux.Additionally,there was a rapid application of a 1.9 N force over the lacrimal sac directed inferomedially,resulting in a 0.2 N pressure at the sac/NLD junction.During the generation of maximal Crigler’s pressure:1)A force of 0.7 N was recorded at NLD orifice;2)There was a concurrent 1.9 N inferomedial force applied to the lacrimal sac.3)A pressure of 0.2 N was measured at the sac/NLD junction.In all applications of Crigler’s technique,the compression of the common canaliculus remained>0.3 N,which is the threshold for preventing reflux.Conclusions:This quantitative study demonstrates that Crigler’s lacrimal sac massage generates significantly higher hydrostatic pressure at the lower NLD orifice compared to alternative techniques,while simultaneously maintaining a compression of the common canaliculus that prevents reflux.These findings provide biomechanical evidence to support the use of Crigler’s technique as the optimal massage method for the treatment of CNLDO.Clinical adoption of this technique may lead to improve rates of obstruction clearance and a reduced need for invasive procedures. 展开更多

Based on the concepts of cloud water resource(CWR)and related variables proposed in the first part of this study,this paper provides details of two methods to quantify the CWR.One is diagnostic quantification(CWR-DQ)based on satellite observations,precipitation products,and atmospheric reanalysis data;and the other is numerical quantification(CWR-NQ)based on a cloud resolving model developed at the Chinese Academy of Meteorological Sciences(CAMS).The two methods are applied to quantify the CWR in April and August 2017 over North China,and the results are evaluated against all available observations.Main results are as follows.(1)For the CWR-DQ approach,reference cloud profiles are firstly derived based on the Cloud Sat/CALIPSO joint satellite observations for 2007–2010.The NCEP/NCAR reanalysis data in 2000–2017 are then employed to produce three-dimensional cloud fields.The budget/balance equations of atmospheric water substance are lastly used,together with precipitation observations,to retrieve CWR and related variables.It is found that the distribution and vertical structure of clouds obtained by the diagnostic method are consistent with observations.(2)For the CWR-NQ approach,it assumes that the cloud resolving model is able to describe the cloud microphysical processes completely and precisely,from which four-dimensional distributions of atmospheric water vapor,hydrometeors,and wind fields can be obtained.The data are then employed to quantify the CWR and related terms/quantities.After one-month continuous integration,the mass of atmospheric water substance becomes conserved,and the tempospatial distributions of water vapor,hydrometeors/cloud water,and precipitation are consistent with observations.(3)Diagnostic values of the difference in the transition between hydrometeors and water vapor(Cvh-Chv)and the surface evaporation(Es)are well consistent with their numerical values.(4)Correlation and bias analyses show that the diagnostic CWR contributors are well correlated with observations,and match their numerical counterparts as well,indicating that the CWR-NQ and CWR-DQ methods are reasonable.(5)Underestimation of water vapor converted from hydrometeors(Chv)is a shortcoming of the CWR-DQ method,which may be rectified by numerical quantification results or by use of advanced observations on higher spatiotemporal resolutions. 展开更多

Terrestrial ecosystems are vital for maintaining equilibrium in the global carbon cycle.Land use and land cover change(LUCC),which is influenced mainly by urbanization and ecological policies,impacts terrestrial ecosystem carbon storage significantly.In this study,spatiotemporal carbon storage changes in the urban belt along the Yellow River in the Ningxia Hui Autonomous Region,China,were estimated through a model that integrated patch-generating land use simulation(PLUS)and integrated valuation of ecosystem services and tradeoffs(InVEST)models from 1993 to 2033.The results revealed that:(1)from 1993 to 2023,the expansion of built-up land and cropland was derived mainly from unused land and grassland,whereas water body and woodland remained relatively stable.Projections to 2033 have indicated that LUCC will continue and be concentrated primarily in the Ningxia Plain;(2)carbon storage increased by a net 5.01×106 Mg C from 1993 to 2023;(3)the spatial distribution of carbon storage revealed that high-value areas were predominantly located in the Helan Mountains and the Ningxia Plain,whereas low-value areas were found in the Tengger Desert;(4)scenario projections indicated that by 2033,the ecological protection scenario(EPS)would achieve a 0.18×106 Mg C increase by reducing the conversion of woodland to cropland and grassland to built-up land,while increasing the conversion of unused land to grassland.In contrast,the natural development scenario(NDS),cropland protection scenario(CPS),and urban development scenario(UDS)decreased carbon storage by 0.60×106,0.21×106,and 0.42×106 Mg C,respectively;and(5)spatial autocorrelation analysis revealed that high–high carbon storage clusters formed belt-like patterns along the Ningxia Plain and the Helan Mountains,whereas the low–low carbon storage clusters were concentrated in northern Zhongwei City,western Qingtongxia City,western Dawukou District,and the urbanized areas within the central Ningxia Plain.Overall,the study results revealed the close coupling relationship between LUCC and carbon storage functions.Furthermore,the study establishes a framework for carbon management that balances ecological protection with coordinated urban development for the urban belt as well as for similar arid and semi-arid areas.On the basis of these findings,this study provides decision-makers with guidance to optimize ecosystem carbon storage via land use,which plays a key role in developing future land use policies and achieving the"dual carbon"goals. 展开更多

As the pivotal test equipment of aero-engines design,finalization,improvement,modification,etc.,the Altitude Ground Test Facilities(AGTF)plays an important role in the research and development of the aero-engines.With the rapid development of advanced high-performance aeroengine,the increasing demand of high-altitude simulation test is driving AGTF to improve its test ability and level of automation and intelligence.The modeling method,simulation tool,and control technology are the key factors to support the improvement of the AGTF control system.The main purpose of this paper is to provide an overview of modeling methods,simulation tools,and control technologies in AGTF control system for future research.First,it reviews the evolution of AGTF in the world,from the early formative stage to integration stage.Then,the mathematical modeling method of AGTF for control application is overviewed.Furthermore,the simulation tools used in the AGTF control system are overviewed from numerical simulation to hardware-in-loop simulation and further to semi-physical simulation.Meanwhile,the control technologies used in the AGTF control system are summarized from single-variable control to multivariable integrated control,and from classical control theory to modern control theory.Finally,recommendations for future research are outlined.Therefore,this review article provides extensive literature information for the modeling,simulation,and control design of AGTF for control application. 展开更多

Modeling and simulation have emerged as an indispensable approach to create numerical experiment platforms and study engineering systems.However,the increasingly complicated systems that engineers face today dramatically challenge state-of-the-art modeling and simulation approaches.Such complicated systems,which are composed of not only continuous states but also discrete events,and which contain complex dynamics across multiple timescales,are defined as generalized hybrid systems(GHSs)in this paper.As a representative GHS,megawatt power electronics(MPE)systems have been largely integrated into the modern power grid,but MPE simulation remains a bottleneck due to its unacceptable time cost and poor convergence.To address this challenge,this paper proposes the numerical convex lens approach to achieve state-discretized modeling and simulation of GHSs.This approach transforms conventional time-discretized passive simulations designed for pure-continuous systems into state-discretized selective simulations designed for GHSs.When this approach was applied to a largescale MPE-based renewable energy system,a 1000-fold increase in simulation speed was achieved,in comparison with existing software.Furthermore,the proposed approach uniquely enables the switching transient simulation of a largescale megawatt system with high accuracy,compared with experimental results,and with no convergence concerns.The numerical convex lens approach leads to the highly efficient simulation of intricate GHSs across multiple timescales,and thus significantly extends engineers’capability to study systems with numerical experiments. 展开更多

Ultra-wideband(UWB)technology is a prospective technology for high-rate transmission and accurate localization in the future communication systems.State-of-art channel modeling approaches usually divide the UWB channel into several sub-band channels and model them independently.By considering frequency-dependent channel parameters,a novel analytical UWB channel model with continuous frequency response is proposed.The composite effect of all frequency components within the UWB channel on the channel impulse response(CIR)of delay domain is derived based on the continuous channel transfer function(CTF)of frequency domain.On this basis,a closed-form simulation model for UWB channels and geometry-based parameter calculation method are developed,which can guarantee the continuity of channel characteristics on the frequency domain and greatly reduce the simulation complexity.Finally,the proposed method is applied to generate UWB channel with 2 GHz bandwidth at sub-6GHz and millimeter wave(mmWave)bands,respectively.The channel measurements are also carried out to validate the proposed method.The simulated CIR and power gain are shown to be in good agreement with the measurement data.Moreover,the comparison results of power gain and Doppler power spectral density(DPSD)show that the proposed UWB channel model Received:Apr.23,2022 Revised:Jun.09,2022 Editor:Wei Fan achieves a good balance between the simulation accuracy and efficiency. 展开更多

With the aid of multi-agent based modeling approach to complex systems, the hierarchy simulation models of carrier-based aircraft catapult launch are developed. Ocean, carrier, aircraft, and atmosphere are treated as aggregation agents, the detailed components like catapult, landing gears, and disturbances are considered as meta-agents, which belong to their aggregation agent. Thus, the model with two layers is formed i.e. the aggregation agent layer and the meta-agent layer. The information communication among all agents is described. The meta-agents within one aggregation agent communicate with each other directly by information sharing, but the meta-agents, which belong to different aggregation agents exchange their information through the aggregation layer first, and then perceive it from the sharing environment, that is the aggregation agent. Thus, not only the hierarchy model is built, but also the environment perceived by each agent is specified. Meanwhile, the problem of balancing the independency of agent and the resource consumption brought by real-time communication within multi-agent system (MAS) is resolved. Each agent involved in carrier-based aircraft catapult launch is depicted, with considering the interaction within disturbed atmospheric environment and multiple motion bodies including carrier, aircraft, and landing gears. The models of reactive agents among them are derived based on tensors, and the perceived messages and inner frameworks of each agent are characterized. Finally, some results of a simulation instance are given. The simulation and modeling of dynamic system based on multi-agent system is of benefit to express physical concepts and logical hierarchy clearly and precisely. The system model can easily draw in kinds of other agents to achieve a precise simulation of more complex system. This modeling technique makes the complex integral dynamic equations of multibodies decompose into parallel operations of single agent, and it is convenient to expand, maintain, and reuse the program codes. 展开更多
