Objective: To investigate the current beliefs and attitudes of nurses in Yunnan Province toward prescriptive authority, analyze the influencing factors, and provide evidence for future research and policy formulation to support the establishment of nurses’ prescriptive authority in China. Method: A cross-sectional survey was conducted among 937 nurses in Yunnan Province using the Beliefs and Attitudes Scale on Nurses’ Prescriptive Authority. The scale assessed four dimensions: perceived need, self-efficacy, perceived benefits, and perceived barriers. Multiple linear regression analysis was used to identify factors influencing the overall score and each dimension. Results: The total score of the Beliefs and Attitudes Scale was 89.17 ± 17.69, indicating a moderate level of awareness and positive attitude among nurses. The highest-scoring dimension was perceived benefits (34.94 ± 8.04), while the lowest was perceived barriers (15.23 ± 3.5). Age was identified as a significant factor influencing the overall score and self-efficacy dimension (P < 0.05). Years of practice influenced the perceived benefits dimension (P = 0.051), while gender, age, and professional title were key factors affecting the perceived barriers dimension (P < 0.05). Male nurses and senior nurses demonstrated more caution toward potential risks associated with prescriptive authority. Conclusion: Nurses in Yunnan Province exhibit moderate levels of belief in and attitudes toward prescriptive authority, with age being the most significant influencing factor. Tailored training programs, policy promotion, and practical guidance are recommended to enhance nurses’ understanding and support for prescriptive authority, thereby improving nursing practices and addressing regional healthcare challenges. 展开更多

Objectives:To explore experiences of ICU nurses with a virtual reality(VR)-based stress reduction intervention and identify the factors influencing its acceptance, guided by the Technology Acceptance Model. Methods:A qualitative descriptive study was conducted in the ICU of a tertiary hospital in China.Fifteen nurses who had completed a VR intervention were recruited using purposive sampling.Data were collected through in-depth,semi-structured interviews between September and October 2025.The interviews were transcribed verbatim and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological method. Results:The analysis yielded five key themes.1)Perceived usefulness:nurses recognized VR’s effectiveness in reducing stress, primarily through mechanisms of immediate relaxation and psychological detachment from the high-pressure clinical environment.2)Perceived ease of use:the adoption process was hindered not only by technical issues but, more fundamentally,by a persistent inability to disengage from patient care responsibilities during use mentally.3)Influence of external variables:a critical barrier identified was the absence of structured organizational support, encompassing protected time, dedicated private spaces, and clear implementation policies.4)Behavioral intention and usage patterns:despite existing barriers, participants expressed a conditional willingness to adopt VR,integrating it flexibly into their routines for in-shift respite or post-shift recovery.5)Recommendations for improvement:practical suggestions for optimization focused on three areas, including diversifying VR content, improving hardware ergonomics, and establishing essential institutional enablers. Conclusions:VR technology has the potential to alleviate stress among ICU nurses. However, its sustainable integration into clinical practice requires a systemic approach that addresses multifaceted barriers, with organizational policy and support being the most critical enabling factor.Future initiatives must extend beyond technological optimization to include protected time, dedicated spaces, and supportive policies to ensure effectiveness and long-term adoption. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Global tumor incidence rises and therapies advance, driving oncology nursing specialization.Granting nurses prescriptive authority optimizes care but polarizes nurses'attitudes due to factors like risk and competence, hindering policy implementation.AIM To investigate the current status of the attitudes of oncology specialist nurses toward having prescribing authority, specifically concerning symptom management and supportive care in oncology practice, and we conducted a path analysis of their influencing factors.METHODS As participants in the survey, oncology specialist nurses working in hospitals of different grades in Jiangsu Province were selected from March 2025 to May 2025 using a stratified sampling method. The questionnaires were administered using the general information questionnaire, the beliefs and attitudes about nurses'prescriptive authority scale, the nurses'professional identity scale, and the selfefficacy scale.Pearson’s method was used to analyze the correlation between beliefs and attitudes about the prescriptive authority, professional identity, and self-efficacy of nurses.Multiple linear regression was performed to analyze the factors influencing the beliefs and attitudes of nurses’prescriptive authority. The Amos plug-in was used to construct structural equation models to analyze the influencing pathways.RESULTS A total of 329 questionnaires were distributed, and 328 valid questionnaires were returned(effective recovery rate:99.70%).The total score of the 328 oncology nurses on the beliefs and attitudes about nurses'prescriptive authority scale was 101.88±15.13,indicating a moderately high level.Univariate analysis revealed that gender and hospital grade were associated with this score(P<0.05).The Pearson correlation analysis revealed that self-efficacy was positively correlated with the scores of the beliefs and attitudes about nurses’prescriptive authority scale and the nurses’professional identity scale(r=0.4999,P<0.0001 and r=0.7048,P<0.05,respectively),whereas occupational identity was positively correlated only with the former(r=0.6209,P<0.05).Multiple linear regression analysis revealed occupational identity and self-efficacy as the factors influencing the scores of the beliefs and attitudes about nurses’prescriptive authority scale(P<0.05).The results of the path analysis revealed that selfefficacy significantly positively affected nurses’occupational identity and their beliefs and attitudes about having prescriptive authority;occupational identity played a mediating role between the two, with a mediating effect accounting for 54.46% of the total effect, and the structural equation model was well-fitted.CONCLUSION Oncology nurses have more positive attitudes toward prescriptive authority. In addition,self-efficacy positively and indirectly affects nurses’attitudes toward prescriptive authority through the mediating effect of occupational identity. This can be used as a basis for clinical practice to take targeted measures to improve nurses’self-efficacy and occupational identity, thus creating favorable conditions for effectively implementing the policy of prescriptive authority. 展开更多

This study examined the moderating effects of psychological detachment and conscientiousness on the relationship between compulsory citizenship behaviour(CCB)and work-family conflict(WFC)among nurses.Data were gathered from 289 nurses(104 males and 185 females)working in public hospitals in the southwestern part of Nigeria. They completed self-report measures on CCB,WFC,psychological detachment, and conscientiousness.Hayes PROCESS Macro results showed that CCB was associated with higher WFC among nurses.Psychological detachment(β=−0.05,p<0.006)and conscientiousness(β=−0.02,p<0.003)significantly moderated the relationship between CCB and WFC,such that higher levels of these factors mitigated the negative impact of CCB on WFC.These findings are consistent with the conservation of resources theory,as they indicate that the negative effects of resource-depleting demands(CCB)are attenuated by the availability of additional resources, namely, psychological detachment and conscientiousness.Interventions aimed at fostering psychological detachment and conscientious work habits, such as time management training or goal-setting workshops, could be strategically implemented to enhance this protective trait among nurses. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The technologically intensive neonatal intensive care unit(NICU)environment often triggers substantial maternal anxiety. While kangaroo mother care(KMC)is a gold-standard intervention, its success depends heavily on the nurse’s role in managing the mother’s emotional burden and facilitating adaptation.AIM To explore neonatal nurses’experiences, perceptions, and strategies related to managing maternal anxiety during KMC.METHODS A qualitative descriptive design was employed.Data were collected through semi-structured,in-depth interviews with 15 nurses selected using criterion sampling. The data were analyzed using thematic analysis.RESULTS Five overarching themes emerged:Manifestations of maternal anxiety, its effects on the care process, nurses’anxiety management strategies, the emotional and professional impact on nurses, and clinical requirements for effective care.Nurses reported that anxiety most commonly stemmed from fear of harming the infant and concerns related to medical devices, often accompanied by observable emotional and physical distress.Anxiety occasionally limited participation in KMC and reduced the duration or quality of sessions.Effective management strategies included transparent information-sharing,therapeutic communication, involvement of fathers, and peer modeling. While successful anxiety regulation enhanced nurses’professional satisfaction, environmental limitations and insufficient training that undermined professional confidence were identified as key systemic barriers.CONCLUSION Nurses function as critical external co-regulators who transform maternal fear into self-efficacy.Effective management requires a holistic integration of therapeutic communication, professional competence, and supportive NICU environments.Future initiatives should prioritize simulation-based training focused on the emotional dimensions of care and the ergonomic redesign of NICUs to support maternal mental health. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Operating room nurses are vulnerable to burnout and mental health issues related to high-intensity workloads, the complexity of technical operations, and the immense pressure of responsibility.Although cognitive behavioral therapy(CBT)has proven effective in the treatment of burnout and anxiety, there is a dearth of systematic research on option B,CBT-based group interventions targeting operating room nurses,as well as insufficient evidence for its long-term effects.AIM To evaluate the effects of CBT-based group intervention on burnout and anxiety symptoms in operating room nurses.METHODS A retrospective analysis was conducted on data from 90 operating room nurses in our hospital from January 2024 to January 2025.The intervention group(n=46)received an 8-week structured CBT group intervention, while the control group(n=44)received routine management. The intervention included psychoeducation, cognitive restructuring, behavioral activation, stress management, and problemsolving training, conducted once weekly for 90-120 minutes per session.Assessments were conducted at baseline,post-intervention(week 8),and 3 months postintervention using the Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey,Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7,Patient Health Questionnaire-9,Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index,Nurse Job Satisfaction Scale, and General Self-Efficacy Scale.RESULTS No significant differences were found in any indicators between the two groups at baseline(P>0.05).At postintervention, the intervention group showed lower scores in emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and Maslach Burnout Inventory-General Survey total score compared to the control group, and higher scores in professional efficacy(P<0.001);Generalized Anxiety Disorder-7,Patient Health Questionnaire-9,and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index scores were lower than the control group(P<0.001);job satisfaction and General Self-Efficacy Scale scores were higher than the control group(P<0.001).At 3 months post-intervention,these differences persisted(P<0.001).CONCLUSION CBT-based group intervention can improve burnout and anxiety symptoms in operating room nurses, enhance sleep quality, job satisfaction, and self-efficacy,with effects maintained up to 3 months post-intervention. 展开更多

Objective:To observe 4 graduate students from Johns Hopkins School of Nursing(JHSON)who participated in an experiential educational initiative at B.P.Koirala Institute of Health Sciences(BPKIHS)in Dharan,Nepal,in January 2024.Methods:The students engaged in diverse rotations across multiple wards, including community health, labor and delivery, emergency, psychiatric, and pediatric care. Results:Observations revealed that nursing students in Nepal undertake significant responsibilities and assume the roles that are often reserved for more senior professionals in the U.S.The study highlights how task sharing and task shifting(TS/S)models,where tasks are redistributed among health care workers, including students, can address staffing shortages and enhance care delivery in low-resource settings and in times of crisis. Conclusions:Despite some challenges such as the potential for increased workload and the need for clear role definitions, the TS/S approach offers a promising strategy for improving health care efficiency and providing valuable learning experiences. This commentary suggests that incorporating nursing students into TS/S models not only supports immediate health care needs but also prepares them for independent practice upon graduation. This reflective commentary could offer insights into optimizing health care education and delivery in both resource-constrained environments and broader health care systems. 展开更多

This study aims to explore the implementation effect of using lean management theory to optimize nursing staff allocation based on the perspective of general practice nurses,so as to provide empirical evidence for the refined management of nursing human resources in primary and comprehensive medical institutions.Nursing staff and inpatients in the Department of General Practice and related linked departments of a general hospital were selected as research subjects. The traditional nursing staff allocation model was adopted before the intervention, while after the intervention, the service concept of general practice nurses was integrated and lean management optimization strategies were implemented, including value stream sorting, hierarchical staffing, flexible scheduling, process reengineering and continuous improvement.Differences in nursing staff utilization efficiency, nursing quality indicators, nurses’job burnout level, and patient and nurse satisfaction before and after the intervention were compared. Results After the intervention, the balance of nursing staff allocation and per capita effective nursing working hours were significantly improved, and the proportion of non-value-added working time decreased;the incidence of adverse nursing events decreased, and the qualified rate of basic nursing and implementation rate of specialized nursing increased;nurses’job burnout scores decreased, and both nurses’job satisfaction and patient nursing satisfaction were significantly higher than those before the intervention(p<0.05).Lean management from the perspective of general practice nurses can accurately match nursing service needs with human resource supply, reduce resource waste, improve nursing efficiency and quality, and improve nurses’practice experience and patients’medical experience. It is a scientific and feasible model for optimizing nursing staff allocation. 展开更多

As the core leader of the nursing team, head nurses play a vital role in improving the professional competence of the team, enhancing team cohesion, upgrading nursing quality, ensuring nursing safety, and promoting nursing innovation. This study takes 15 head nurses from different levels and departments as research subjects, and collects data through semistructured interviews and observation methods.Combined with transformational leadership theory, social learning theory and organizational commitment theory,an“Input-Process-Output(IPO)”analytical framework is constructed.Through thematic induction and cross-case analysis, this paper systematically explores the mechanism and realization paths of head nurses’leadership in nursing team management. The results show that through exemplary leadership, scientific management and effective communication, head nurses not only improve the professional literacy and teamwork ability of nursing staff, but also promote the continuous optimization of nursing quality and safety management. This study further puts forward strategies to strengthen the capacity building of head nurses themselves, improve the management system and focus on personnel training,to provide theoretical support and empirical reference for nursing management practice and policy formulation. 展开更多
