The prepared fibers were characterized by thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD) and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Using the fibers as catalysts, photoeatalytic degradation of Methylene Blue (MB) aqueous solution was carded out under simulated sunlight. The 0.2% Ce doping proved to be the optimal concentration for the doping of TiO2/SiO2, compared to other Ce-doped molar concentrations. The 0.2% Ce-doped SiOdTiO2 fibers exhibited higher photocatalytic activity than industrial Degussa P25 and the samples doped with only Ce or SIO2. The reasons for improving the photocatalytic activity were also discussed. Several operational parameters were studied, which showed that the photocatalytic efficiency of MB was influenced by parameters such as the initial dye concentration, the initial pH, inorganic anions, and so on. In addition, the influences of an electron acceptor and a radical scavenger suggested that OH was the dominant photooxidant during the photocatalytic process. The reuse evaluation of the fibers indicated that their photocatalytic activity had good stability.展开更多

The prop- erties of the samples were characterized by Fourier trans- form infrared spectra (FTIR), X-ray powder diffraction pattern (XRD), Scanning electron micrographs (SEM), and Zeta potential. Degradation of methyl violet was used as a probe reaction to explore the influencing factors on the photodegradation reaction. The results show that the opti- mal conditions are as follows: initial concentration of methyl violet of 10 mg·L^-1, pH of 3.0, catalyst dosage of 2.9 g·L^-1, and light irradiation time of 2.5 h. Under these conditions, the degradation rate of methyl violet is 95.4 %. The reaction on photodegradation for methyl violet can be expressed as the first-order kinetic model, and the possible mechanism for the photocatalysis under simulated natural light is suggested. After used continuously for five times, the catalyst keeps the inherent photocatalytic activity for degradation of dyes. The photodegradation of methyl orange, methyl red, naphthol green B, and methylene blue was also tested, and the degradation rate of dyes can reach 81%-100%.展开更多

The samples were characterized by TEM, SEM, BET, IR, XRD and so on. The results indicate that the BET surface area of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels calcined at 550℃ which consisted of anatase structure of TiO2 with narrow distribution pores of 5-25 nm is as high as 357.89 m2·g-1. For the photocatalytic degradation of pyridine, the catalytic activities of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels are much higher than that of TiO2 powder. The photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels calcined at 800℃ is the optimum. The higher the content of SiO2, the higher the photocatalytic activity of TiO2/SiO2 aerogels. The cost for preparation of the aerogels is greatly reduced by using non-supercritical drying method, and the aerogels are hopefully applied in the treatment of industrial waste water such as coking effluent treatment.展开更多

Water completely spread on TiO 2 surface within 3 s and its dynamic contact angles can be expressed by a power law θ d= k(t+a) -n with the n value 0.98. Less than 50%(molar fraction) SiO 2 addition can accelerate the dynamic water spreading rate on the TiO 2 SiO 2 films and the optimum molar fraction of SiO 2 amount corresponding to as annealed, air plasma, and UV irradiation treatment process is 15%, 10% and 20%, respectively.展开更多

Characterizations with XRD, TEM, NMR and FTIR showed that in addition to anatase type TiO2, a new active phase(Ti,Sn)O2 was also formed in the range of the studied doping concentration, The catalytic activity was evaluated by photocatalytic degradation of phenol as model reaction. SiO2 remained amphorous at all samples. It could prevent from growth of the size of nanopaticle and transformation from anatase to rutile. Compared with pure TiO2, or TiO2-SnO2 catalyst prepared by Sol-gel method, Nano-composite photo-catalyst showed significant improvement in catalytic activity, the photo-catalytic degradation rate of phenol in 7 h reached 88.7%. Application of the composite catalysts for the photocatalytic decomposition of phenol not only gave the same activity relative to pure ultrafine TiO2, but also reduced cost. The experimental results also proved that the thermal stability of TiO2 was greatly enhanced after mixing with small amount of SiO2. The optimized doping of SiO2 was 20.3%. The photo-catalyst prepared by SCFD combination technology was characterized with smaller particle size, larger surface area and higher activity.展开更多
