Experimental results indicated that Y and Eu doping inhibited the growth of crystalline size and the transformation from anatase to rutile phase and had the function of reducing particle reunion. At the same time, co-doping could also enhance the absorption in visible region and then narrowed the band gap. The photocatalytic activities of the samples were evaluated by the degradation of methylene blue(MB) under ultraviolet(UV) light irradiation, which showed much enhanced photocatalytic activities over un-doped TiO2. The degradation rate of 1.5% Y/Eu-TiO2 of methylene blue was 86%, which was about 5 times of that of un-doped TiO2, and the possible reasons for the improvement of photocatalytic activities were analyzed. In this experiment, the dopant amount of rare earth was 1.5% and the ratio of Y:Eu was 2:3 for the maximum photocatalytic degradation, and the sample calcined at 500℃ showed the best reactivity. For the best samples above, the removal rate of phenol under visble light was 53% whthin 2 h.展开更多

The effects of humidity, initial formaldehyde concentration, residence time and ozone adding amount on degradation of formaldehyde gas were investigated. The experimental results indicated that the combination of ozonation with photocatalytic oxidation on the degradation of formaldehyde showed a synergetic action, e.g,, it could considerably increase decomposing of formaldehyde. The degradation efficiency of formaldehyde was between 73.6% and 79.4% while the initial concentration in the range of 1.84--24 mg/m^3 by O3/TiO2flJV process. The optimal humidity was about 50% in UV/TiO2/O3 processs and degradation of formaldehyde increases from 39.0% to 94.1% when the ozone content increased from 0 to 141 mg/m^3. Furthermore, the kinetics of formaldehyde degradation reaction could be described by Langmuir-Hinshelwood model. The rate constant k of 46.72 mg/(m^3.min) and Langmuir adsorption coefficient K of 0.0268 m^3/mg were obtained.展开更多

The effects of heat-treatment on the UV-absorption of the thin films were studied on the 60CeO2-40TiO2 thin film with the largest UV cut-off wavelength. The sample films with CeO2:TiO2=60:40 were heated at 773 K, 873 K, 973 K for 30 min. These films are characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), scanning electron microscopy (SEM), and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and spectrometer (XPS). XRD analysis proves that the addition of TiO2 to CeO2 changed the crystalline state of CeO2. But the UV absorption effect of CeO2-TiO2 films with CeO2 crystallite phase is inferior to that of the amorphous phase CeO2-TiO2 films. XPS analysis also indicates that the amorphous phase CeO2-TiO2 films have the most Ce3+ content in these films. Amorphous phase and crystalline phase of the CeO2-TiO2 films have different effects on UV absorption of the thin films.展开更多

Under UV irradiation, hole and electron were photogenerated by TiO_2. Formic acid was oxided by the photogenerated hole and photogenerated electron was transferred to reduce polyoxometalate. With this design, formic acid can be converted into electricity in the fuel cell and hydrogen can be generated in the electrolysis cell without noble metal catalyst. Unlike other noble metal catalysts applied in the fuel cells and electrolysis cell, POM and TiO_2 are stable and low cost. The maximum output power density of liquid formic acid fuel cell after 12 h UV irradiation is 5.21 mW/cm^2 for phosphmolybdic acid and 22.81 m W/cm^2 for phosphotungstic acid respectively. The applied potential for the hydrogen evolution is as low as 0.8 V for phosphmolybdic acid and 0.6 V for phosphotungstic acid.展开更多

The synthesized product has been applied to photo-degradation in aqueous phase of chlorinated solvents, namely tetra- chloroethene (PCE), tdchloroethene (TCE) and 1,1,l-trichloroethane (TCA). The photo-degradation results revealed that the degradation of these harmful chemicals was better in UV/synthesized TiO2 system compared to UV/commerciai P25 system and UV only system. The photo-catalytic efficiency of the synthesized TiO2 was 1.4, 1.8 and 3.0 folds higher compared to the commercial P25 for TCA, TCE and PCE degradation, respectively. Moreover, using nitrobenzene (NB) as a probe of hydroxyl radical (.OH), the degradation rate was better over UV/synthesized TiO2, suggesting the high concentration of .OH generated in UV/synthesized TiO2 system. In addition, .OH concentration was confirmed by the strong peak displayed in EPR analysis over U~/synthesized TiO2 system. The characterization result using XRD and TEM showed that the synthesized TiO2 was in anatase form and consisted of well-defined sheet-shaped structures having a rectangular outline with a thickness of 4 rim, side length of 50 nm and width of 33 nra and a surface 90.3 m^2/g. XPS analysis revealed that ≡Ti-F bond was formed on the surface of the synthesized TiO2. The above results on both photocatalytic activity and the surface analysis demonstrated the good applicability of the synthesized TiO2 nano-sheets for the remediation of chlorinated solvent contaminated groundwater.展开更多
