The conversion of biomass-derived aldehydes via waste shell-derived catalysts is vital for sustainable chemistry,yet green batch synthesis of such catalysts from raw biomass remains underexplored.This study uses crab shells,a kitchen waste,combined with ZrCl4via non-toxic hydrothermal synthesis to scale-prepare Zr-containing polyphenolic biopolymer catalyst(Zr-Ch).Comprehensive characterizations revealed that the robust coordination between Zr4+ions and phenolic hydroxyl groups in waste shell resulted in the formation of potent Lewis acid-base pair sites(Zr4+-O2−).The synergistic effect of diverse acid-base sites in Zr-Ch enabled exceptional catalytic efficiency for the Meerwein-Ponndorf-Verley(MPV)reaction of furfural(FF)to furfuryl alcohol(FA)with a remarkably lower activation energy of 22.2 kJ/mol,which greatly reduced the reaction temperature to 100℃.Consequently,a quantitative yield of FA as high as 94.9%and a selectivity for FA of 98.9%were achieved.This research expanded waste shell applications and illuminated acid-base interaction mechanisms in biomass molecule reduction. 展开更多

To address the operational uncertainties and power quality challenges brought by high-penetration distributed energy integration into distribution networks,this paper proposes a precision renovation optimization method for active distribution networks(ADNs)that considers probabilistic power flow.First,based on probabilistic power flow analysis,a comprehensive power quality evaluation index system is constructed to accurately quantify the impact of uncertainties caused by photovoltaic fluctuations on distribution network power quality under high-penetration distributed photovoltaic(PV)scenarios.On this basis,a precision renovation optimization model is established with the goals of minimizing renovation cost,maximizing renewable energy hosting capacity,and optimizing the comprehensive power quality index,thereby achieving coordinated optimization of economic and operational performance.To address the challenges of solving this high-dimensional,mixed-variable,and strongly constrained model,an Adaptive and Feedback-enhanced Multi-strategy Particle Swarm Optimization(AFM-PSO)algorithm is proposed.This algorithm incorporates structured particle encoding,a dynamic information entropy feedback mechanism,and a local perturbation strategy,significantly improving search efficiency and convergence accuracy,making it suitable for rapidly solving complex distribution system renovation problems.Finally,the effectiveness of the proposed model and algorithm is verified using an IEEE 33-node distribution system with high-penetration PV integration as a simulation platform.The results demonstrate that the proposed method significantly enhances system voltage stability and renewable energy hosting capacity while controlling renovation costs,validating its superiority in achieving refined renovation and efficient operation of distribution networks. 展开更多

In China,electric vehicle(EV)fast-charging power has quadrupled in the past five years,progressing toward 10-minute ultrafast charging.This rapid increase raises concerns about the impact on the power grid including increased peak power demand and the need for substantial upgrades to power infrastruc-ture.Here,we introduce an integrated model to assess fast and ultrafast charging impacts for represen-tative charging stations in China,combining real-world charging patterns and detailed station optimization models.We find that larger stations with 12 or more chargers experience modest peak power increases of less than 30%when fast-charging power is doubled,primarily because shorter charg-ing sessions are less likely to overlap.For more typical stations(e.g.,8-9 chargers and 120 kW·charger−1),upgrading chargers to 350-550 kW while allowing managed dynamic waiting strategies(of∼1 minute)can reduce overall charging times to∼9 minutes.At stations,deploying battery storage and/or expanding transformers can help manage future increases in station loads,yet the primary device cost of the former is∼4 times higher than that of the latter.Our results offer insights for charging infrastructure planning,EV-grid interactions,and associated policymaking. 展开更多

BACKGROUND The need for an emergency upgrade of a hospitalized trauma patient from the floor to the trauma intensive care unit(ICU)is an unanticipated event with possible life-threatening consequences.Unplanned ICU admissions are associated with increased morbidity and mortality and are an indicator of trauma service quality.Two different types of unplanned ICU admissions include upgrades(patients admitted to the floor then moved to the ICU)and bounce backs(patients admitted to the ICU,discharged to the floor,and then readmitted to the ICU).Previous studies have shown that geriatric trauma patients are at higher risk for unfavorable outcomes.AIM To analyze the characteristics,management and outcomes of trauma patients who had an unplanned ICU admission during their hospitalization.METHODS This institutional review board approved,retrospective cohort study examined 203 adult trauma patients with unplanned ICU admission at an urban level 1 trauma center over a six-year period(2017-2023).This included 134 upgrades and 69 bounce backs.Analyzed variables included:(1)Age;(2)Sex;(3)Comorbidities;(4)Mechanism of injury(MOI);(5)Injury severity score(ISS);(6)Glasgow Coma Scale(GCS);(7)Type of injury;(8)Transfusions;(9)Consultations;(10)Timing and reason for unplanned admission;(11)Intubations;(12)Surgical interventions;(13)ICU and hospital lengths of stay;and(14)Mortality.RESULTS Unplanned ICU admissions comprised 4.2%of total ICU admissions.Main MOI was falls.Mean age was 70.7 years,ISS was 12.8 and GCS was 13.9.Main injuries were traumatic brain injury(37.4%)and thoracic injury(21.7%),and main reason for unplanned ICU admission was respiratory complication(39.4%).The 47.3%underwent a surgical procedure and 46.8%were intubated.Average timing for unplanned ICU admission was 2.9 days.Bounce backs occurred half as often as upgrades,however had higher rates of transfusions(63.8%vs 40.3%,P=0.002),consultations(4.8 vs 3.0,P<0.001),intubations(63.8%vs 38.1%%,P=0.001),longer ICU lengths of stay(13.2 days vs 6.4 days,P<0.001)and hospital lengths of stay(26.7 days vs 13.0 days,P<0.001).Mortality was 25.6%among unplanned ICU admissions,31.9%among geriatric unplanned ICU admissions and 11.9%among all trauma ICU patients.CONCLUSION Unplanned ICU admissions constituted 4.2%of total ICU admissions.Respiratory complications were the main cause of unplanned ICU admissions.Bounce backs occurred half as often as upgrades,but were associated with worse outcomes. 展开更多

Effect of thermal annealing on the upgraded metallurgical grade(UMG)-Si was investigated under different conditions.The dislocation,grain boundaries and preferred growth orientation of Si ingot were characterized by optical microscopy,electron back scattering diffraction(EBSD) and X-ray diffractometry(XRD),respectively.The arrange order of dislocation density of Si ingot is from the lowest in the middle to the lower in the bottom and low in the top before and after annealing.And it decreases gradually with increase of the annealing temperature.The number of small angle grain boundaries declines gradually until disappears whereas the proportion of coincidence site lattice(CSL) grain boundaries increases firstly and then decreases.The twin boundary Σ3 reaches the highest proportion of 28% after annealing at 1 200 ℃ for 3 h.Furthermore,the crystal grains in different positions gain the best preferred growth orientation,which can promote the following machining of Si ingot and the conversion efficiency of solar cells. 展开更多

A direct production method of high-strength titanium alloy from upgraded titania slag(UGS)was developed.First,UGS was reduced into alloy powder with 1.3 wt.%oxygen using magnesium powder.Subsequently,the alloy powder was compacted at 600 MPa to produce a pellet.Lastly,the pellet was sintered to produce titanium alloy.The reduced powder was characterized,and the effect arising from the sintering temperature on the sintered density,compressive strength,microstructure,and hardness of the alloys was studied.The results showed that the density tended to increase with the temperature increasing from 900 to 1200℃,whereas the porosity decreased.A significant sintering densification was achieved at the temperature above 1100℃(98.65%at 1100℃ and 99.41%at 1200℃).At 1100℃,the hardness and compressive strength reached the maximal values of the alloy,HV 655.7 and 1563 MPa,respectively. 展开更多

Virulence factors(VFs)confer upon pathogens the ability to cause various types of damage or diseases.Wastewater treatment plants(WWTPs)are important point sources for the emission of pathogens and VFs into receiving rivers.Conventional WWTP upgrades are often implemented to improve the water quality of receiving ecosystems.However,knowledge on the pathogens,VFs,and health risks to receiving aquatic ecosystems after upgrade remains limited.In this study,we investigated detailed pathogenic information,including taxa,pathogenicity,and health risk,in two wastewater-dominant rivers after WWTP upgrade.Using 16S rRNA gene sequencing,we screened 14 potential pathogens in water and epilithic biofilm samples,though they were significantly more enriched in the biofilms.Combining 16S rRNA and metagenomic sequencing data,we identified Pseudomonas and Aeromonas as the dominant pathogenic taxa carrying functional VFs(e.g.,mobility and offensive)in the epilithic biofilm.Moreover,strong pathogen-specific VF-host co-occurrence events were observed in the epilithic biofilm samples,indicating the importance of biofilms as reservoirs and vehicles for VFs.Further,we demonstrated that mobility VF is crucial for biofilm formation and pathogens in biofilm carrying offensive VF may be highly invasive.Quantification and health risk assessment suggested that the skin contact risk of P.aeruginosa carrying VFs was higher than the acceptable probability of 10-4in both water and epilithic biofilm samples,which may threaten ecological and human health. 展开更多

Then, this paper estimates China's future human capital demand and shortage based on economic and demographic forecast. In view of the measurement difficulties of indexes recommended by the 50Items Experience of Coal Mine Gas Prevention in the process of the nonoutburst coalseam upgrade, this paper took the No.8 coal seam of Huainan Mining Group as research object. Discussed the suitability of indexes and corresponding critical values, putforward method in determining the indexes and its critical values by analysis and investigation of the gas geological condition and the-spot tracking near position where anoutburst occurred combined with laboratory experiment, and established the indexesand its critical values of nonoutburst coal seam upgrade in No.8 coal seam of HuainanMining Group. The results show that it is suitable to take gas content and tectonic softcoal thickness easily to gain in routine production as primary upgrade indexes that itscritical values are 7.5 m^3 and 0.8 m, respectively. In this rapidly evolving market, software development is an ongoing process thatmust be tailored to meet the dynamic needs of enterprises. However, internal research and development can beprohibitively expensive, driving many enterprises to outsource software development and upgrades to externalservice providers. This paper presents a software upgrade outsourcing model for enterprises and service providersthat accounts for the impact of market fluctuations on software adaptability. To mitigate the risk of adverseselection due to asymmetric information about the service provider’s cost and asymmetric information aboutthe enterprise’s revenues, we propose pay-per-time and revenue-sharing contracts in two distinct informationasymmetry scenarios. These two contracts specify the time and transfer payments for software upgrades. Througha comparative analysis of the optimal solutions under the two contracts and centralized decision-making withfull-information, we examine the characteristics of the solutions under two information asymmetry scenarios andanalyze the incentive effects of the two contracts on the various stakeholders. Overall, our study offers valuableinsights for firms seeking to optimize their outsourcing strategies and maximize their returns on investment insoftware upgrades. 展开更多

China has operated as a proactive destination of technology transfer and diffusion from the Western world since reform and opening-up in 1978.This enabled the country to seize strategic opportunities of global factor specialization and helped it achieve great industrial development and upgrade.Nevertheless,the traditional path of integration into the global system of factor specialization has also brought about problems of imbalance and incoordination such as an excessive consumption of natural resources and environmental damage,making it necessary for China's industrial development to increase sustainability.Deepening of global factor specialization,increased cross-border liquidity,and the strategy of "reverse integration" of multinational firms based on developing economies are tendencies highly consistent with the direction of China's industrial development and upgrade and present new strategic opportunities for integration into global factor specialization and industrial transformation.Rather than simply acting passively as a destination of foreign investment,a new round of opening-up is required for China to take a more efficient route in the global system of factor specialization.Therefore,in the area of industrial development,China must keep a down-to-earth attitude,effectively utilize the existing comparative advantages,and follow a gradual and science-based approach.Only by following this course will China be able to take advantage of the new opportunities,foster advanced indigenous and international factors,and increase its capabilities of innovation and global operation on the basis of global resources integration. 展开更多

New-generation synchrotron light sources are being designed and operated worldwide to provide brighter radiation by reducing the beam emittance to X-ray diffraction limits.Intra-beam scattering(IBS)and Touschek scattering in such facilities are significant and require attention because of their ultra-low emittance.Therefore,cure strategies need to be carefully studied to obtain highquality photon beams.For the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility Upgrade(SSRF-U),a candidate lattice of the storage ring,reaching the soft X-ray diffraction limit,was designed and presented for the first time in this study.The emittance growth and beam lifetime in the SSRF-U storage ring were studied using particle simulations for a series of different machine configurations.The gains with RF frequencies of 100 MHz and 500 MHz were compared.Along with a better filling pattern,a more suitable RF frequency was adopted in the SSRF-U.The variations in the equilibrium beam emittance with beam coupling and bunch-lengthening were identified using simulations.Optimal beam coupling and required bunch-lengthening for the SSRF-U storage ring were thus determined.The fitness of the beam energy in the SSRF-U was subsequently assessed using the obtained parameters.Additionally,the Touschek scattering and beam lifetime were calculated,and an acceptable total beam lifetime was obtained. 展开更多

Upgrade and separation of Co from solution with low grade Co were studied. In the solution, the content of Co is about 1 g·L -1 , while that of Ni, Zn, Mn, Mg, Si and Ca is 0.145, 1.108, 0.119, 6.672, 0.026 and 0.200 g·L -1 , respectively. After absorbed with absorbent G-1, the content of Co in the solution is less than 1 mg·L -1 , the average loss rate of Co is 0.07%, while the average loss rate of Mg is 67.92%. It is demonstrated that the absorbent has selectivity to absorb Co. After the absorbent was eluted with HCl at room temperature, the solution with higher content of Co was obtained. Through being evaporated and concentrated, the contant of Co in the solution can be upgraded to 26.6 g·L -1 . At the same time, most of Si, Mg is removed, the total recovery of Co can reach as high as 98.7%. The content of Pb, Ni, Cu, Zn, Mn in the discharge solution is 1.00, 0.26, 0.21, 0.09, 0.15 mg·L -1 , respectively, and the discharge solution can reach the national discharge standard. On the basis of competency-based comparative advantage theory and reclassification of industries,this paper has discussed whether the FGP-type industry upgrade has taken place across different regions of China and whether China is able to transcend the middle-income trap through the FGP-type industry upgrade.This paper has discovered that no matter by traditional method of industry classification or the new method of industry classification,China has already experienced the FGP-type industry upgrade and entered into the second stage of this process.While relocating industries to central and western regions,China's eastern region does not have clear directions of industry upgrade of its own.Through analysis on the evolution of comparative advantages across regions,this paper has also discovered that in the process of the FGP industry upgrade,China is facing the risk of falling into comparative advantage trap.These factors are unfavorable to China's implementation of the FGP-type industry upgrade strategy,prevention of the comparative advantage interruptions that may confront middle-income countries and achievement of balanced regional development. 展开更多

Recycling graphite anode from spent lithium-ion batteries(SLIBs)is regarded as a crucial approach to promoting sustainable energy storage industry.However,the recycled graphite(RG)generally presents degraded structure and performance.Herein,the residual fluoride self-activated effect is proposed for the upgraded utilization of RG.Simple and low-energy water immersion treatment not only widens the interlayer spacing,but also retains appropriate fluoride on the surface of RG.Theoretical analysis and experiments demonstrate that the residual fluoride can optimize Li~+migration and deposition kinetics,resulting in better Li~+intercalation/deintercalation in the interlayer and more stable Li metal plating/stripping on the surface of RG,As a result,the designed LFP||RG full cells achieve ultrahigh reversibility(~100%Coulombic efficiency),high capacity retention(67%after 200 cycles,0.85 N/P ratio),and commendable adaptability(stable cycling without short-circuiting,0.15 N/P ratio).The energy density is improved from 334 Wh kg-1of 1.1 N/P ratio to 367 Wh kg-1of 0.85 N/P ratio(total mass based on cathode and anode).The exploration of RG by residual fluoride self-activated effect achieves upgraded utilization beyond fresh commercial graphite and highlights a new strategy for efficient reuse of SLIBs. 展开更多
