摘要Based on the theory of multimodal discourse analysis, this study analyzes the synergistic effects of textual, visual, and other semiotic resources in Alibaba’s official ESG reports, revealing how these resources construct environmental narratives and empower corporate image through semiotic practices. The research, conducted from the dimensions of representational meaning, interactive meaning, compositional meaning, and modal synergy, deciphers how the semiotic system deeply integrates ecological concepts. The findings indicate a high degree of text-image synergy during the 2022-2024 period, effectively presenting themes such as“Repairing the Green Planet,”“Digital Empowerment for Carbon Reduction,”and“Clean Energy and Circular Economy.”However, the visual presentation in the 2025 report is relatively concentrated on flowcharts and data graphs, showing insufficient multidimensional representation of environmental modules and public engagement, with an overall weakening of text-image synergy. This study enriches the application of multimodal analysis in the field of environmental narrative research. Its theoretical and practical value lies in revealing the strategic role of semiotic synergy in building a sustainable brand and providing a communication pathway reference for promoting public environmental awareness and sustainable consumption behaviors.
摘要The discourse marker ni zhidao("you know")has attracted considerable scholarly attention.Previous studies have extensively discussed its functions, but relatively little attention has been paid to its evolutionary trajectory and formation mechanisms.Based on a large body of corpus data and within the framework of synchronic grammaticalization theory, this paper provides a detailed investigation of the evolutionary process, formation mechanisms, and motivations for the development of ni zhidao. The findings show that ni zhidao develops into a discourse marker after undergoing lexicalization and grammaticalization. Its evolutionary trajectory can be summarized as follows:non-subjectivity→subjectivity→discourse marker. The formation of the discourse marker ni zhidao is mainly driven by changes in its syntactic environment and by semantic conventionalization. Its motivations for evolution include subjectification, intersubjectivity, and high-frequency use.By revealing the evolutionary trajectory of ni zhidao from the perspective of synchronic grammaticalization, this study offers a useful reference for research on the evolution of other discourse markers.

摘要The current international dissemination of China’s human rights discourse predominantly adopts a“sender-oriented”model,emphasizing the output of human rights discourse by transmitters while overlooking strategy adjustments based on audience feedback. To some extent, the current approach has resulted in characteristics such as strong practical implementation but weak discourse, limited theoretical foundation, and insufficient recognition in China’s international human rights communication.Consequently, while China has achieved remarkable progress in its human rights endeavors, human rights issues remain a critical area of stigmatization by some Western countries.An“effect-oriented”mechanism for the international dissemination of China’s human rights discourse, therefore, aims to address this challenge by re-centering the audience as active participants in the communication process.By emphasizing the dual nature of human rights’international communication, this approach leverages the reflexive monitoring of initial transmitters throughout the dissemination process to finally construct a dynamic human rights discourse framework responsive to different time and space contexts. This mechanism directly confronts the diverse backgrounds of global audiences and the resulting varied interpretations of China’s human rights discourse. It advocates for dynamic evaluation of global dissemination outcomes based on audience feedback and the timely adaptation of communication strategies according to context.By doing so,it seeks to effectively advance China’s human rights communication efforts and enhance dissemination efficiency on the global scale.

摘要Discourse markers(DMs)in many languages have been investigated from various theoretical perspectives and within diverse methodological paradigms for decades.Studies within the field of DMs are accelerating rapidly;however, few state-of-the-art reviews have been conducted to systematically inform scholars of the current landscape of DM research. This investigation conducted a comprehensive review of 2,183 studies from 2009 to 2022,leveraging CiteSpace for bibliometric analysis. The study aims to illuminate emerging trends and focal areas within DM research and lay the groundwork for further interdisciplinary exploration and collaboration in this area. The analysis reveals a growing interest in DM studies, identifies leading contributors, including countries, universities, and scholars, highlights the most cited journals and references shaping the field, and delineates prevalent research themes and topics,as well as methodological approaches employed. These findings indicate that DM research has evolved from a linguistic inquiry into an interdisciplinary domain employing varied methodologies such as qualitative and/or quantitative, experimental, and synchronic and/or diachronic. This study can provide important implications for future research in terms of the pragmatic turn, interdisciplinary nature, expansion of data from English to various other languages, and diversified methodologies.

摘要General Secretary Xi Jinping’s important discourses on the protection of women’s rights and interests represent an organic integration of the Marxist view on women, the revolutionary and governance experience of the Communist Party of China(CPC)in leading efforts to safeguard women’s rights and interests, and the fine traditional Chinese culture. They form a systematic ideological framework and actionable guide characterized by contemporary relevance, originality, and coherence.General Secretary Xi Jinping has elaborated incisively on key dimensions of women’s rights protection, including political participation rights, personal and dignity rights, cultural and education rights, labor and property rights, and marriage and family rights. These expositions have facilitated the systematic incorporation of women’s rights and interests protection into laws and regulations, its elevation to the level of state will, and its internalization as norms of social conduct.Faced with the convergence of both emerging and longstanding challenges in protecting women’s rights and interests,we should, guided by these important expositions, embed women’s rights and interests protection into the thematic priorities of contemporary Chinese women’s movements, align our efforts with the new features and requirements of safeguarding women’s rights and interests in the new era, continuously strengthen Party leadership over such endeavors, and unswervingly follow the path of developing women’s cause with Chinese characteristics.
摘要Metaphor is a fundamental cognitive mechanism that structures human thought and expression across languages. Its cross-cultural variation significantly influences discourse comprehension. This paper examines how conceptual metaphors differ between Chinese and English, shaped by distinct cultural models, and explores their impact on textual interpretation.Through comparative analysis of linguistic and poetic examples,we highlight the role of metaphor in organizing discourse and conveying culturally embedded meanings. The study concludes with pedagogical implications, suggesting that explicit instruction in cross-cultural metaphor enhances students’discourse awareness and intercultural communication skills.

摘要This study examines the grammatical and translational characteristics of English loanwords in modern Chinese, with a focus on their usage in Internet discourse.Drawing on 30 popular English-derived terms collected from Internet platforms, such as the Language Weekly and the Chinese Inventory, this study investigates changes in parts of speech, pluralization patterns, and translation forms. Results show that most English loanwords undergo grammatical transformation, especially shifts in parts of speech to align with Chinese syntactic norms, and the number of English noun phrases is used randomly.Meanwhile,a significant portion of English loanwords are retained in their original form, with a trend of non-translation,and some even present untranslatability. The distinct differences between English and Chinese account for the grammatical changes of English loanwords in Chinese Internet discourse. At the same time, the lack of equivalent and appropriate meaning in Chinese contributes to the untranslatability of some English loanwords. These findings contribute to a deeper understanding of linguistic adaptation in multilingual contexts and provide pedagogical insights for language learning and teaching.
摘要“civil discourse”amongst multiple individuals with diverse viewpoints is necessary to move toward truth,to maintain democratic buoyancy, and to get the most accurate read on how best to move forward toward our collective good, civil discourse is nonetheless under catastrophic threat by contemporary forces that include the sloppy use of the term“hate speech”;the“libelling by labeling”(aka“cancelling”)in the public square of social media;technologically powered disinformation campaigns;and the growth of“safetyism”in academia. In light of these threats, the goal must be to convince educators, particularly philosophical educators,of the need to adopt a whole new focus in education, namely one that puts a spotlight on the fact that the utilization of the freedom of speech to destroy the freedom of speech of others utterly undermines the positive value of freedom of speech. In order to motivate individuals to turn their back on the dopamine rush of shutting someone down, educators must also spend a great deal of time showcasing the merits of“civil discourse”by providing young people with extensive experience in engaging in facilitated“civil discourse”(aka Communities of Philosophical Inquiry)so that its value can be woven into a personal commitment.
