Welding deformation adversely affects the quality and precision of structural components, and traditional methods require significant material resources and time.Machine learning has demonstrated exceptional ac-curacy and efficiency in solving complex problems. Thus, the use of machine learning to predict welding de-formations is a novel approach. In this study, laser welding experiments were conducted on a TC4 titanium alloy to establish a welding deformation dataset. The deep neural network(DNN)and convolutional neural network(CNN)models were designed and constructed, with average prediction errors of 0.85 mm and 0.94 mm on the validation set, respectively. To further optimize the network parameters,a differential evolution algorithm was employed through mutation, crossover, and selection. The results indicated that after optimization, the pre-diction errors of the DNN and CNN models reduced to 0.75 mm and 0.85 mm,respectively. These represent accuracy improvements of 14.8%and 9.6%,respectively.The optimized models exhibited superior predictive performances for the validation set. 展开更多

Researchers continuously advance optimization algorithms, recognizing that no meta-heuristic can solve all problem types,as stated by the No Free Lunch theorem. This paper introduces the Propagation alongside Crossover(PAC)algorithm to address continuous optimization challenges. The primary goal of PAC is to structure the algorithmic phases in a manner that achieves a robust balance between exploration and exploitation through appropriately designed mechanisms at each stage.PAC simultaneously leverages the benefits of propagation, crossover, and mutation.Three independent operators are defined to generate new candidate solutions separately, and a novel selection strategy allows individuals produced by each operator, along with members of the current population,to independently enter the next generation. This design preserves population diversity, prevents all individuals from converging toward a single point, and enhances the algorithm’s ability to explore the solution space effectively.A key innovation of PAC is its three-mode propagation mechanism, which comprises local search, linear propagation toward the target point, and tear-drop shaped propagation toward the target point.Tear-drop propagation provides a precise and adaptive search around promising solutions, increasing diversity and preventing entrapment in local optima. The target point is typically set as the global optimum;however, when propagating the global optimum itself,a random point is used as the target to further enhance exploration and escape from local optima. The initial population is generated using chaotic mapping to ensure broad coverage of the search space.PAC was rigorously evaluated on 51 benchmark functions and three engineering problems, considering scalability, convergence, sensitivity, and computational efficiency.Comparative analyses with established optimization algorithms demonstrate PAC’s superior performance,as confirmed by Wilcoxon signed-rank and Friedman statistical tests.Furthermore,PAC was applied as a feature selection method on four diverse datasets, achieving substantial dimensionality reduction while outperforming comparative methods in classification accuracy. These results highlight PAC’s versatility, robustness, and practical effectiveness. 展开更多

Designing effective electrocatalysts for hydrogen evolution reaction(HER)and oxygen evolution reaction(OER)is essential for the advancement of water electrolysis.Herein,iridium-doped CoSe2(Ir–CoSe2)nanobelts with tailored d-band center are designed to boost both HER and OER in alkaline electrolytes. On the one hand, the adsorption ability of H2O and hydrogen on Ir–CoSe2 is increased due to the upshifted d-band center induced by the electron transfer from CoSe2 to Ir,inducing good HER activity with an overpotential of 126 mV at 10 mA cm-2.On the other hand, the upshifted d-band center of Ir–CoSe2 facilitates the H2O adsorption and ensures the effective exposure of real active sites, resulting in good OER activity with an overpotential of 239 mV at 10 mA cm-2.Meanwhile,when using Ir–CoSe2 as catalysts for alkaline overall water splitting on both HER and OER,a lower voltage of 1.57 V at 10 mA cm-2 is achieved, indicating a good activity and great potential for practical water electrolysis. This work gives an effective method for the rational design of electrocatalysts with customized d-band structures for bifunctional catalysis. 展开更多

The reaction pathway plays a pivotal role in determining the catalytic activity of the oxygen evolution reaction(OER).However, regulating the microscopic reaction pathway through interface construction remains a significant challenge. In this study,an interface between amorphous rare earth hydroxides and crystalline spinel NiCo2O4was constructed via selective oxidation. The interface structural units accelerate reconstruction, leading to enhanced catalytic activity, which was observed by in situ Raman spectroscopy. The amorphous RE(OH)3(RE=Y and Eu)optimize asymmetric Ni-Co dual-sites,thereby altering the OER reaction pathway.Specifically,Y(OH)3/NiCo2O4operates through the lattice oxygen mechanism(LOM)at the expense of structural stability, whereas Eu(OH)3/NiCo2O4follows the oxygen pathway mechanism(OPM),preserving both catalytic activity and stability. This study offers a novel approach to controlling reaction pathways and proposes a new strategy for interface construction using rare earth hydroxides. 展开更多

Multi-component transition metal carbides(MTMCs)have garnered significant attention for their out-standing high-temperature stability and versatile properties, which make them ideal candidates for a wide range of industrial applications. However, the underlying mechanisms governing the crystal growth and morphological evolution of MTMCs remain poorly understood, hindering the design of materials with tailored characteristics. In this paper,we employ an in-situ liquid-solid reaction method to synthesize(HfTaZrNbTi)C MTMC powders and explore their crystal growth and morphology evolution. The synthesized(TiZrHfNbTa)C powders exhibit two distinct morphologies:cubic, primarily composed of Ti,Hf,Ta,and Zr with a small amount of Nb,and octahedral, rich in Ti and Ta with minor amounts of Hf,Nb,and Zr.First-principles calculations show that the surface energy of the(100)plane is lower than the(111)plane,leading to the formation of the cubic morphology. The octahedral morphology forms due to decreased mixing entropy and higher theoretical density compared to cubic particles. Our findings provide valuable insights into the crystal growth and morphology evolution mechanisms of high-entropy ceramics, contributing to the rational design of MTMCs with engineered crystal structures for diverse structural and functional applications. 展开更多

Root-inspired anchorage systems in the field of bio-inspired geotechnics are renowned for enhancing the pullout capacity of traditional geotechnical anchorage systems by simulating the morphology and architecture of plant root systems. However, limited studies have explored their practical applications, particularly in improving slope stability. To fill this gap, this study investigates the reinforcement effect of root-inspired anchors on slope stabilization using transparent soil modeling and 3D-printed anchors, and examines the impact of anchor branching patterns(i.e.branching numbers, branching angle, and branching nodes)on slope bearing capacity, shear band evolution, and temporal and spatial variation of slope deformation. The results show that peak slope bearing capacity increases with branching numbers and branching angles, correlating with the envelope area of the curved shear band.Upper anchors result in step-like deflections in the shear band near the trailing edge, while lower anchors convert the upward concave shear band into an upward convex one, thus increasing the slope bearing capacity.Slope deformation is minimized with intermediate branching parameters, such as a branching number of 4 and a branching angle of 45°.The anchor reinforcement mechanisms,i.e.anchor rod shear resistance, interface friction, anchor pullout capacity, and plate tightening effects, are comprehensively discussed, and the installation effects resulting from compromise slope modeling are identified as the contributors. These findings shed light on the failure process of root-inspired anchors reinforced slopes and provide a preliminary reference for potential applications, especially for the tradeoff between anchor branching, slope deformation, and slope stability. 展开更多

Metaheuristic algorithms have emerged as indispensable tools for solving NP-hard optimization problems that defy traditional methods. To advance the field’s focus on algorithmic performance, this study introduces the Theory Evolution Optimization(TEO)–an efficient metaheuristic inspired by the evolution of scientific theory.TEO simulates the competitive, accumulative, and replacement processes among scientific hypotheses, mirroring the evolution from a hypothesis to an established scientific theory. The performance of TEO is validated through extensive experimental simulations and benchmarked against 28 popular algorithms, including highly competitive champions such as EBOwithCMAR,LSHADE_cnEpSi,and LSHADE.Pairwise comparisons between TEO and the latest algorithms are conducted using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test, with multiple comparisons managed by the Friedman test.Initially,TEO is tested on the classical IEEE CEC2017 and the latest IEEE CEC2022 benchmark functions.TEO successfully addresses four prominent engineering design problems in constrained continuous space for practical applications.Additionally,a binary TEO(BTEO)variant is introduced and applied to feature selection tasks in discrete space.Experimental results consistently demonstrate that TEO proposes highly competitive outcomes in optimization problems. The source codes for this research are accessible to the public at http://gffzze767f4cc5ce545d8s6o9cnf5bufvx605x.ffgz.tsg.suse.edu.cn/TEO.html. 展开更多

The cemented tailings backfill(CTB)with initial defects is more prone to destabilization damage under the influence of various unfavorable factors during the mining process. In order to investigate its influence on the stability of underground mining engineering, this paper simulates the generation of different degrees of initial defects inside the CTB by adding different contents of air-entraining agent(AEA),investigates the acoustic emission RA/AF eigenvalues of CTB with different contents of AEA under uniaxial compression, and adopts various denoising algorithms(e.g.,moving average smoothing, median filtering, and outlier detection)to improve the accuracy of the data. The variance and autocorrelation coefficients of RA/AF parameters were analyzed in conjunction with the critical slowing down(CSD)theory. The results show that the acoustic emission RA/AF values can be used to characterize the progressive damage evolution of CTB.The denoising algorithm processed the AE signals to reduce the effects of extraneous noise and anomalous spikes.Changes in the variance curves provide clear precursor information, while abrupt changes in the autocorrelation coefficient can be used as an auxiliary localization warning signal. The phenomenon of dramatic increase in the variance and autocorrelation coefficient curves during the compression-tightening stage, which is influenced by the initial defects, can lead to false warnings. As the initial defects of the CTB increase, its instability precursor time and instability time are prolonged, the peak stress decreases, and the time difference between the CTB and the instability damage is smaller. The results provide a new method for real-time monitoring and early warning of CTB instability damage. 展开更多

The oxygen evolution reaction(OER)suffers from sluggish kinetics, necessitating efficient electrocatalysts to reduce overpotentials in water splitting.Currently recognized OER mechanisms primarily include the adsorbate evolution mechanism(AEM),lattice oxygen mechanism(LOM),and oxide path mechanism(OPM).Compared to AEM,limited by scaling relationships, and LOM,constrained by stability issues, the OPM offers a promising alternative by enabling direct O-O bond formation via dual active sites, thus bypassing*OOH intermediates and lattice O involvement and achieving a balance between activity and durability. However, activating the OPM process requires precise control over the spatial and electronic structure of active sites, making the design of OPM-based catalysts challenging. While previous reviews have focused on homo/heteronuclear diatomic perspectives of OPM-based catalysts,it is urgent to systematically summarize design strategies to provide a rational reference for their development.Herein,a review of design strategies for OPM-based OER catalysts across three scales is comprehensively presented, including in-situ engineering,doping-enabled sites reconstruction, and introducing new sites for nanoparticles, direct synthesis or post-treatments for molecular catalysts, and doping or template strategies for atom pairs or arrays. The unique advantage of atom arrays is also highlighted, and their future research directions and possible strategies are discussed. This review provides a systematic summary and forward-looking perspectives for rationally designing high-performance OPM-based OER catalysts. 展开更多

The dynamic evolution of fracture permeability presents a critical scientific challenge in rock masses.Understanding the mechanisms of rock mass permeability evolution is vital for engineering project design and operations.By integrating the discrete element method(DEM)with the finite element method(FEM),a numerical simulation framework for shear seepage in rough fractured shale has been developed to investigate the dynamic mechanisms of permeability evolution under varying confining pressures and during the shearing process.Numerical simulations were conducted on rough fractured samples under effective confining pressures ranging from 5 MPa to 20 MPa to monitor the aperture and permeability evolution of the fracture. The results of the numerical simulation are consistent with the experimental observations, indicating that both the shearing process and confining pressure significantly influence permeability. Moreover, the magnitude of the confining pressure is a crucial factor influencing the trend in permeability changes.Under a confining pressure of 5 MPa,fracture permeability initially increases significantly but decreases post-shearing.In contrast,a continuous decrease in fracture permeability is observed when the confining pressure exceeds 10 MPa.The results of the shear numerical simulation indicate that the confining pressure restricts fracture dilation during shearing, promotes the generation of rock debris, and decreases both the permeability and transmissivity of the fracture. The wear results obtained from numerical simulations are consistent with the experimental patterns and correlate with the joint roughness coefficient(JRC).This study proposed an effective numerical simulation method to reveal the evolution mechanism of fracture flow capacity, taking into account the wear of the fracture surface in shear simulations and the initial stress state of the rock in seepage simulations. This research explains the permeability evolution mechanism of fractured shale from a microscopic perspective, and the proposed numerical simulation method for shear seepage provides a powerful means to uncover the dynamic evolution mechanisms governing fracture permeability. 展开更多

Amplitude Phase Shift Keying(APSK)is more suitable for the nonlinear channels of Low Earth Orbit(LEO)satellite communication systems compared to Quadrature Amplitude Modulation(QAM).To tackle challenges posed by Direct Current(DC)interference and high demodulation complexity,we propose an APSK demodulation algorithm based on K-means clustering.Initially, static DC components are calculated and removed from the received APSK signals.Subsequently, the estimated APSK constellation points serve as initial centers for K-means clustering. These centers are refined through the K-means process and act as theoretical APSK constellation points for the Max-Log-MAP demodulation algorithm, effectively eliminating residual DC.We then introduce a low-complexity APSK demodulation algorithm that utilizes the symmetry of constellation points along with the Euclidean distance between DC-eliminated signals and these constellation points to minimize the set of constellation points.Simulation results indicate that for 32-APSK,our proposed demodulation submodule reduces computational complexity to approximately one-third that of the Max-Log-MAP algorithm while improving Bit Error Rate(BER)performance by about 0.23 dB.Furthermore,end-to-end simulation experiments conducted within LEO satellite communication systems demonstrate that our approach not only maintains this complexity advantage but also enhances BER performance by approximately 1.1 dB. 展开更多

In reliability analyses, the absence of a priori information on the most probable point of failure(MPP)may result in overlooking critical points, thereby leading to biased assessment outcomes.Moreover,second-order reliability methods exhibit limited accuracy in highly nonlinear scenarios. To overcome these challenges,a novel reliability analysis strategy based on a multimodal differential evolution algorithm and a hypersphere integration method is proposed.Initially, the penalty function method is employed to reformulate the MPP search problem as a conditionally constrained optimization task.Subsequently,a differential evolution algorithm incorporating a population delineation strategy is utilized to identify all MPPs.Finally,a paraboloid equation is constructed based on the curvature of the limit-state function at the MPPs,and the failure probability of the structure is calculated by using the hypersphere integration method. The localization effectiveness of the MPPs is compared through multiple numerical cases and two engineering examples, with accuracy comparisons of failure probabilities against the first-order reliability method(FORM)and the secondorder reliability method(SORM).The results indicate that the method effectively identifies existing MPPs and achieves higher solution precision. 展开更多

Seismic time series forecasting remains challenging due to the nonlinearity,non-stationarity,and noise of earthquake data, and because deep learning models are sensitive to preprocessing and hyperparameter settings.Although recent studies have improved neural architectures and optimization techniques, preprocessing is often treated as a fixed or manually designed stage, with limited integration into model optimization. To address this, this paper proposes an integrated,data-driven modelling framework that combines guided preprocessing with systematic hyperparameter optimization for seismic prediction, specifically forecasting earthquake magnitude from seismic catalog time-series data, with experiments conducted on Canadian seismic records. The method uses a Large Language Model to guide data preparation and feature engineering, rather than fully automate them, and applies deep learning-based forecasting with the N-HITS architecture, optimized via metaheuristic-assisted feature selection and hyperparameter tuning. The Football Optimization Algorithm(FbOA),employed as a metaheuristic optimization strategy in this study,is evaluated and compared with several well-known optimizers under identical conditions. The results show significant performance gains, with FbOA achieving superior accuracy, robustness, and convergence compared to baseline and competing methods.Notably, error metrics are reduced(MSE 3.10×10-7,RMSE 5.57×103),with high performance indicators(r=0.982,R2=0.979,NSE=0.981,WI=0.985).These results highlight the value of integrating guided preprocessing with optimization and demonstrate a scalable framework for high-precision time-series prediction in geophysical and related domains. 展开更多

The Intrusion Detection System(IDS)is a security mechanism developed to observe network traffic and recognize suspicious or malicious activities.Clustering algorithms are often incorporated into IDS;however, conventional clustering-based methods face notable drawbacks, including poor scalability in handling high-dimensional datasets and a strong dependence of outcomes on initial conditions. To overcome the performance limitations of existing methods, this study proposes a novel quantum-inspired clustering algorithm that relies on a similarity coefficient-based quantum genetic algorithm(SC-QGA)and an improved quantum artificial bee colony algorithm hybrid K-means(IQABC-K).First,the SC-QGA algorithmis constructed based on quantum computing and integrates similarity coefficient theory to strengthen genetic diversity and feature extraction capabilities. For the subsequent clustering phase, the process based on the IQABC-K algorithm is enhanced with the core improvement of adaptive rotation gate and movement exploitation strategies to balance the exploration capabilities of global search and the exploitation capabilities of local search.Simultaneously, the acceleration of convergence toward the global optimum and a reduction in computational complexity are facilitated by means of the global optimum bootstrap strategy and a linear population reduction strategy.Through experimental evaluation with multiple algorithms and diverse performance metrics, the proposed algorithm confirms reliable accuracy on three datasets:KDD CUP99,NSL_KDD,and UNSW_NB15,achieving accuracy of 98.57%,98.81%,and 98.32%,respectively.These results affirm its potential as an effective solution for practical clustering applications. 展开更多

The unique shock pattern evolution and its corresponding thrust variation of a recently proposed rocket permeable nozzle during an ascent-descent operation are investigated using numerical methods. In the present permeable nozzle flow, the flow pattern and shock system evolution are discussed to demonstrate the flow and hysteresis phenomenon. The formation mechanisms of two featured shocks, permeable shock(PS)and detached shock(DS)are interpreted in two typical scenarios.Accordingly, the interconnection between the nozzle thrust coefficient variation and the shock evolution is clarified.New flow characteristics emerge because of the nozzle permeable section.First, the hysteresis phenomenon manifests through the existence-absence of both the Mach disk and PS/DS.Second,the formation mechanisms of PS and DS differ in low nozzle pressure ratio(NPR,38.49-134.19)and high NPR(134.19-322.00)scenarios.In the low NPR scenario,PS is formed by the core flow deflection due to ambient air inflow, and the DS detachment is formed by a mild pressure gradient between inflow and backflow. In the high NPR scenario, the PS is formed by the boundary layer re-development after the outflow-induced expansion wave, and the DS detachment is formed by the outflow-induced pressure gradient reduction.Third, the hysteresis of thrust coefficient variation is essentially manifested in a low NPR range.Notably, the hysteresis of PS/DS existence resides well in that of the thrust coefficient, suggesting that their existence plays a vital role in varying the nozzle thrust coefficient. 展开更多

Current quantitative characterization methods for the mechanical response and damage evolution of coal seams at different burial depths under mining-induced stress remains insufficient. To address this, this study establishes a quantitative characterization model for the evolution of mechanical properties in gas-bearing coal masses at varying burial depths. It innovatively introduces a dual damage quantification technique and develops a coupled damage evolution model that comprehensively considers energy evolution, effective mining-induced stress, permeability, and a damage sensitivity coefficient, followed by extensive analysis.Key findings include:coal damage exhibits heterogeneous evolutionary characteristics under mining-induced stress;based on the theory of irreversible deformation, the proposed damage characterization equation can effectively determine the critical damage threshold of coal;the three-parameter EXP function model is more suitable for characterizing the time-dependent damage process of coal under mining-induced stress;a new characterization method for the coal brittleness evaluation index is proposed, revealing an 800 m burial depth boundary for the coal brittleness index;at the microscopic level, achieving quantitative characterization of the correlation between peak stress and the average reduction in functional groups during mining-induced failure of coal at different burial depths. Finally, the mapping relationship between laboratory experimental parameters and field monitoring indicators for early warning of coal mine dynamic disasters is established. 展开更多

Gibbons are small, arboreal apes that play a critical role in tropical biodiversity and ecosystem ecology. However, nearly all species of gibbons are threatened by habitat loss, illegal trade, hunting, and other human activities.Long-term poor understanding of their genetics and evolution undermines effective conservation efforts. In this study,we analyse comparative population genomic data of four Nomascus species. Our results reveal strong genetic differentiation and gene flow among Nomascus species.Additionally,we identify genomic features that are potentially related to natural selection linked to vocalization, fructose metabolism, motor balance, and body size, consistent with the unique phenotype and adaptability of gibbons.Inbreeding, coupled with population declines due to climate change and historical human activities, leads to reduced genetic diversity and the accumulation of deleterious variations that likely affect cardiovascular disease and the reproductive potential of gibbons and further reduce their fitness, highlighting the urgent need for effective conservation strategies. 展开更多

In response to the growing need for adaptive optimization algorithms capable of handling complex, multimodal, and high-dimensional search spaces, this paper introduces the Structured Random Cycle-guided Algorithm(SRCA).SRCA is not presented as a fundamentally new optimization paradigm, but rather as an architectural synthesis and a unified adaptive framework for dynamic operator selection.Based on a cycle-structured architecture, directional and stochastic search behaviors are dynamically selected at the individual level. The algorithm orchestrates well-established structured movements with a diverse pool of stochastic exploration strategies, enabling a coherent and adaptive balance between exploration and exploitation throughout the optimization process.Unlike traditional metaheuristics that rely on fixed behavioral roles or static movement schemes,SRCA allows each individual to adapt its search strategy based on real-time population feedback, monitored through convergence and dispersion indicators. The performance of SRCA is quantitatively assessed under strictly identical experimental conditions on a comprehensive set of 23 benchmark functions, including multimodal and high-dimensional problems,as well as on six classical constrained engineering design problems.Numerical results demonstrate competitive convergence reliability and robustness across diverse optimization tasks, confirming the effectiveness of the proposed adaptive cycle-based framework. 展开更多

The hot deformation behavior of platinum was investigated through hot compression experiments.A constitutive equation for the prediction of the flow behavior of platinum was derived from analysis of stress-strain curves.Using the constitutive equation, the peak stress of platinum during hot working was calculated across varying temperatures and strain rates. Results show that the predicted values have strong agreement with experimental results.Electron backscatter diffraction analysis further reveals the thermal deformation mechanisms under distinct conditions within the safe processing region. The optimal processing parameters are identified as deformation temperatures of 860-910 K and strain rates of 0.01-0.1 s−1.Discontinuous yielding observed at elevated strain rates is attributed to the multiplication and movement of the mobile dislocations at grain boundaries. 展开更多

The ever-increasing consumption of fossil fuels has led to environmental crises, which accelerated the quest for sustainable hydrogen energy.Among various production routes, water electrolysis stands out as a promising approach. However, the efficiency of hydrogen evolution reaction is limited by the adhesion of gas bubbles on electrode surfaces, which blocks active sites, increases overpotential, and limits mass transfer. This review highlights the design of microanostructured array electrodes to achieve underwater superaerophobicity, reducing bubble adhesion, facilitating the nucleation and rapid release of ultrasmall bubbles, thereby contributing to reduce in overpotential, faster bubble growth, enhanced mass transport, and improved catalyst stability. We summarize recent advances in fabrication strategies of such electrodes, focusing on microanostructural designs, covering from 0 to 3-dimensional structures.Additionally, the role of hydrophilic gels in optimizing superaerophobicity is discussed. Finally, challenges and future directions are addressed, including bubble dynamics accurate modeling, development of high activity and stability catalysts, intelligent adaptive electrode structure and active bubble regulation, and the integration of artificial intelligence and deep learning for guided electrode design. This review aims to provide a comprehensive perspective on how superaerophobic electrode design address bottlenecks in gas-evolving electrodes, paving the way toward more efficient and economical hydrogen production. 展开更多
