Objective:To develop and evaluate the effectiveness of a holistic,theory-based nurse-led intervention designed to address multidimensional stressors and enhance self-efficacy and quality of life among patients undergoing maintenance hemodialysis.Materials and Methods:A sequential exploratory mixed-methods design was conducted in two tertiary government hospitals in India.Phase I involved phenomenological interviews(n=12)to explore lived experiences and stressors;findings guided the development of a structured nurse-led intervention grounded in Orem's Self-Care Deficit Theory,integrating educational,psychosocial,and behavioral components.Phase II used a quasi-experimental two-group pretest—posttest design(n=93;intervention=47,control=46).The intervention group(IG)received the structured nurse-led intervention in addition to routine care while the control group received routine hemodialysis care alone,including monitoring of vital parameters,body weight,and standard supportive nursing care.The intervention was delivered individually during dialysis sessions over 2 weeks.Outcomes-knowledge,self-care practices,self-efficacy,and Kidney Disease Quality of Life(KDQOL)-were measured at baseline,day 30,and day 45 using validated tools.Results:Six interconnected stressor domains emerged:financial strain,emotional distress,fear and uncertainty,lifestyle disruption,social isolation,and physical limitations.The IG demonstrated significant improvements in knowledge,self-care practices,and self-efficacy(P<0.001),sustained to day 45.Significant improvements were also observed across several KDQOL domains.Postintervention,self-efficacy showed strong positive correlations with quality-of-life dimensions(r=0.72—0.92;P<0.001).Conclusion:A patient-informed,theory-driven nurse-led intervention addressing psychological,social,and behavioral dimensions significantly strengthens self-efficacy and enhances quality-of-life outcomes,supporting its integration into comprehensive hemodialysis nursing care. 展开更多

Academic stress remains a major concern for college students in China in the post-COVID-19 context.This study examined the effectiveness of an eight-week Social Emotional Learning(SEL)intervention in reducing academic stress and enhancing selected social-emotional competencies among first-year students in a Chinese higher education institution.A sequential explanatory mixed-methods design was employed.Participants were 196 first-year students assigned to an experimental group(n=98)and a control group(n=98)in a quasi-experimental study.Quantitative data were collected through validated pre-and post-intervention measures of academic stress,self-esteem,emotional intelligence,and problem-solving skills,complemented by semi-structured interviews with a purposive subsample of intervention participants.Results indicated that students receiving the SEL intervention demonstrated significantly reduced academic stress and significant improvements in social-emotional competencies compared with the control group(p<0.001).Qualitative findings further revealed that SEL intervention enhanced emotion regulation,reconstructed selfworth beyond academic performance,strengthened problem-solving confidence,and culturally embedded peer support contributed to these outcomes,so higher education should integrate social emotional learning into student development programs.Overall,the findings support the effectiveness and cultural relevance of SEL interventions in Chinese higher education and highlight their value for student development and curriculum design. 展开更多

Objective:To investigate the dynamic trajectory,predictors,and underlying adaptation mechanisms of family resilience(FR)among Chinese families with preterm infants(PIs)from birth to six months.Methods:Guided by Ecological Systems Theory,a convergent parallel mixed-methods study was conducted in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit(NICU)of a tertiary hospital in Fujian Province,China,from June 2023 to June 2024.Quantitative data were collected from 202 caregivers selected by convenience sampling at four time points:at birth(T0),42 days postpartum(T1),3 months postpartum(T2),and 6 months postpartum(T3).Generalized Estimating Equations(GEE)was used to analyze scale score differences across time points and explore factors influencing FR.Qualitative data were collected through semi-structured interviews with 14 caregivers recruited by maximum variation purposive sampling and analyzed using Colaizzi’s phenomenological approach.After conducting separate data analyses,the findings were integrated through side-by-side comparison and joint display.Results:Quantitative results revealed a non-linear,“V”-shaped trajectory of FR,significantly influenced by educational level,conception via assisted reproduction,farming occupation,coping style,psychological resilience,family functioning,and social support.Qualitative findings identified four themes:initial uncertainty and emotional distress,post-discharge anxiety,gradual adaptation,and eventual stabilization.Integrated mixed-methods findings revealed that the initial confusion phase demands a comprehensive response to family needs(T0);the post-discharge bottleneck requires addressing the care capability-needs gap(T1);the role adaptation phase is pivotal for enhancing internal family resources(T2);and the family-work transition necessitates enhanced work-family facilitation(T3).Conclusions:This study systematically identifies the unique“V”-shaped trajectory of FR in Chinese families with PIs and its key influencing factors,and accurately analyzes their dynamic experiences and adaptation across four stages.These findings provide an empirical basis for stage-specific targeted interventions,strongly support the practical advancement of the family-centered care model,and deliver critical guidance for enhancing FR. 展开更多

Purpose:It has become increasingly likely that Large Language Models(LLMs)will be used to score the quality of academic publications to support research assessment goals in the future.This may cause problems for fields with competing paradigms since there is a risk that one may be favoured,causing long term harm to the reputation of the other.Design/methodology/approach:To test whether paradigm favouritism is plausible,study 1 uses ChatGPT to evaluate up to 100 journal articles from each of eight pairs of competing sociology paradigms(1,490 altogether).Each article was assessed by prompting ChatGPT to take one of five roles:paradigm follower,opponent,antagonistic follower,antagonistic opponent,or neutral.Study 2 involved five pairs of more tightly defined paradigms.Findings:Articles were scored highest by ChatGPT when it followed the aligning paradigm,and lowest when it was told to devalue it and to follow the opposing paradigm.Broadly similar patterns occurred for most of the paradigm pairs.Follower ChatGPTs displayed only a small amount of favouritism compared to neutral ChatGPTs,but articles evaluated by an opposing paradigm ChatGPT had a substantial disadvantage in some cases.Research limitations:The data covers a single field and LLM.Practical implications:The results confirm that LLM instructions for research evaluation should be carefully designed to ensure that they are paradigm-neutral to avoid accidentally resolving conflicts between paradigms on a technicality by devaluing one side’s contributions.Originality/value:This is the first demonstration that LLMs can be prompted to show a partiality for academic paradigms. 展开更多

In the context of global warming,the increasing frequency of extreme weather events,meteorological disasters,and regional pollution events highlights the urgent need for targeted atmospheric observations in ecologically sensitive regions.The atmospheric boundary layer top remains a critical yet under-observed interface in climate and environmental research.To respond to this need,the Atmospheric Boundary Layer Eco-Environment Shanghuang Observatory(ABLES)was established in 2023 by the Institute of Atmospheric Physics,Chinese Academy of Sciences in Jinhua,southeastern China.As a high-altitude,state-of-the-art research platform,ABLES addresses the critical need for comprehensive atmospheric and environmental observations in East Asia.The observatory facilitates interdisciplinary research focusing on three core areas:(1)cross-sphere transport of pollutants between atmospheric layers and its environmental and climatic impacts;(2)physical and chemical interactions between clouds and aerosols under extreme weather conditions;and(3)multiscale feedback mechanisms between climate change and ecosystems.ABLES is also aimed at revealing long-term patterns in greenhouse gases,ozone depleting substances,and cloud properties,and to elaborate the formation mechanisms of severe weather events such as thunderstorms and freezing rain.The findings at ABLES will support advances in weather forecasting,air quality modeling,and adaptive strategies for climate resilience.As part of China's growing environmental monitoring network,ABLES has been collaborating with various research organizations,serving as a cooperative research platform for technological development and evidence-based environmental policymaking. 展开更多

A soft X-ray energy materials research beamline(BL20U2),a branch of energy materials beamline(E-line),has been constructed in the Shanghai Synchrotron Radiation Facility(SSRF)Phase-Ⅱ project.It is now operational for soft X-ray resonant emission spectroscopy(RXES)and soft X-ray resonant elastic scattering(REXS)investigations.Optical optimization was implemented for high performance,e.g.,photon flux,energy-resolving power,and focus spot size.RXES experiments show that the energy range extends from 150 to 1500 eV.The elastic peak measured near titanium absorption edge(@445 eV)indicates an energy resolution of the RXES spectrometer of 65 meV.The measured photon flux is 3×1012photons/s at 244 eV at the RXES sample position for an SSRF electron energy of 3.5 GeV and a projected ring current as 300 mA.The spot size at the RXES sample position is 23μm in the horizontal direction and 7.9μm in the vertical direction,respectively.Moreover,the angular resolution of elastic REXS scatterometer reaches 0.005°through measurement of X-ray reflection from the single-crystal silicon wafers.A sample of the REXS scatterometer is vibrationally decoupled from its chamber and cooled using copper braids connected from an open cycle liquid helium cryo reservoir,whereas the minimum sample temperature is below 15 K. 展开更多

Mountain soil organic carbon(SOC)is a key component of the global carbon cycle,yet research on its elevational controls has expanded rapidly without a clear synthesis of knowledge structure and emerging frontiers.Here,we conduct a bibliometric analysis of1,391 Web of Science publications(1995–2025)to map the intellectual base,research hotspots,and temporal evolution of SOC studies along elevational gradients.Co-citation and keyword analyses reveal a clear transition from descriptive assessments of SOC stocks toward mechanism-oriented investigations that link SOC dynamics to elevation-structured processes.Prominent thematic clusters include“altitudinal gradient,”“vegetation degradation,”and“microbial necromass carbon,”highlighting increasing attention to biotic regulation and stabilization pathways.Across mountain systems,SOC exhibits diverse elevational patterns and strong within-elevation heterogeneity,reflecting the combined influence of climate constraints,vegetation-mediated carbon inputs,soil physicochemical environments,and microtopography(e.g.,aspect and slope position).Building on these trends,we identify priorities for future research,including cross-region comparisons using standardized designs,integrated frameworks connecting vegetation–microbial processing with mineral/aggregate protection,explicit consideration of alpine and cryosphere dynamics,and the use of remote sensing and GIS to upscale SOC monitoring and modeling in complex terrain. 展开更多

Background:Hemifacial spasm(HFS)is a neurological disorder characterized by involuntary facial muscle contractions,significantly impacting quality of life.This study aims to provide a comprehensive bibliometric analysis of global research trends,collaborations,and scientific contributions in the field of HFS,addressing publication patterns,influential authors and institutions,and prominent research topics from 1999 to 2024.Methods:We conducted a bibliometric analysis based on 1,884 publications retrieved from the Web of Science Core Collection using the keyword"Hemifacial Spasm."Data analysis and visualization were performed using Microsoft Excel,R/Bibliometrix,Scimago Graphica,VOSviewer,Pajek,and CiteSpace.Parameters assessed included publication trends,author collaborations,institutional contributions,core journals,citation metrics,and keyword clusters.Results:Among the analyzed publications,1,646 were original research articles,and 238 were reviews,involving 6,063 researchers and citing 25,252 references.The United States,China,and Japan were identified as leading contributing countries,with prominent institutions including Shanghai Jiao Tong University,Sungkyunkwan University,and the University of Pittsburgh.Top authors by publication count were Li Shiting,Park Kwan,and Zhong Jun,whereas Peter J.Jannetta,Albert R.Møller,and Janko Jankovic were most frequently cited.Core journals,identified via Bradford’s Law,included Acta Neurochirurgica,World Neurosurgery,and Journal of Neurosurgery.Keyword analysis highlighted focal research areas:"hemifacial spasm","microvascular decompression",and"trigeminal neuralgia".Conclusion:This bibliometric study provides critical insights into the evolution of research on HFS,highlighting key contributors,institutional influence,and research hotspots.The findings underscore ongoing collaborative opportunities and essential areas for future research exploration. 展开更多

The field of acupuncture is currently facing paradigmatic issues,including the difficulty of turning theoretical strengths into technical discourse power,a gap between mechanistic research and clinical imperatives,and the fragmentation of research activities.Therefore,constructing a research paradigm grounded in traditional Chinese medicine theory and validated through contemporary scientific methods is essential.Hand Twelve Jing-Well Points(HTWP)acupuncture,an ancient therapy known for its rapid efficacy and practical application,offers an optimal solution for these challenges.In this study,the theoretical foundations,clinical effectiveness,biological explanations,and Translational applications of HTWP acupuncture were consolidated by integrating a four-step research framework.Initially,we developed the“Well point-Brain Connection”framework rooted in classical theories and informed by the“Root-Knot”concept.Subsequent clinical practice provided evidence of its effectiveness in modulating awareness and facilitating motor-cognitive rehabilitation for patients with central nervous system issues.Moreover,mechanistic research provides scientific verification of a“Sensation-Transmission-Effect”cascade that encompasses the activation of arousal circuits and the repair of the blood-brain barrier.Ultimately,the promotion of translation,standardization of systems,and the use of wearable technologies have aided the transition from passive therapy to proactive health management.This closed-loop concept offers compelling evidence for the“Well point-Brain Connection”and provides an applicable framework for scientific innovation and global distribution of innovative acupuncture hypotheses. 展开更多

Buildings increase the urban surface roughness and reduce near-surface wind speeds due to the drag effect,which depends on the flow direction.In this study,a building drag parameterization scheme including the building anisotropy for all flow directions was developed through approximating buildings with elliptical columns to represent anisotropic frontal area index.The new scheme was coupled with the Weather Research and Forecasting(WRF)model to improve urban simulations in those including near-surface wind speeds.The conducted offline sensitivity tests with the developed scheme,using horizontal wind along different directions,show continuous transitions of drag coefficient and other variables depending on flow direction.The maximum difference of drag coefficient between the new and the original scheme reached 10%–20%of that from the original one.These monthly simulations of the WRF model with the new building drag scheme for Chengdu were conducted to validate the updated model against station observation and reanalysis data.Compared to the original scheme,the updated scheme reduces overestimation of 10-m wind speed by 0.1–0.2 m s−1(5%–15%of the original bias),overestimation of 2-m temperature by 0.1℃–0.4℃(20%–60%),and underestimation of 2-m relative humidity by 1%–3%(20%–60%).This is achieved by increasing the drag coefficient through an enhanced frontal area index and reducing wind speed.The diminished wind speed reduces sensible heat flux,enhances latent heat flux,and suppresses vertical motions,resulting in humidity accumulation and cooling in the lower atmosphere.These suggest that reasonable representation of the building anisotropy is important in researching urban climate. 展开更多

This study explores viable pathways for establishing biomedical proof-of-concept(POC)centers via university-affiliated,off-campus research institutions,with the specific aim of overcoming the persistent“valley of death”in biomedical technology translation.By integrating a systematic literature review with in-depth case analyses,the study delineates critical structural and institutional bottlenecks that impede the progression of biomedical discoveries from laboratory research to clinical and industrial application,while highlighting the comparative advantages of off-campus research entities as flexible and translationally oriented platforms.Building on these insights,we propose a four-dimensional functional framework encompassing technology evaluation,targeted financial support,experimental validation,and commercialization facilitation,supported by a market-oriented operational model grounded in risk-sharing mechanisms.Collectively,this integrated model promotes more effective linkage between academic innovation and industrial deployment through coordinated engagement of multiple stakeholders and policy instruments,offering both conceptual contributions and an actionable framework to enhance the efficiency of biomedical technology transfer within Chinese universities. 展开更多

BACKGROUND Rare and complex clinical cases often lack standardized management protocols,posing significant diagnostic and therapeutic challenges.Multidisciplinary team(MDT)collaboration provides holistic perspectives by integrating surgical,medical,radiological,pathological,and psychosocial expertise.Concurrently,innovative research-including precision medicine,artificial intelligence-driven diagnostics,and novel therapeutics-is bridging the gap between theory and practice.Synthesizing current evidence on MDT-driven approaches and innovative interventions is essential to improve patient outcomes,establish standardized frameworks,and advance global clinical medicine.AIM To systematically review MDT roles and innovative research in managing rare and complex clinical cases.METHODS A systematic search of PubMed and Cochrane Library(2013-2025)was conducted.Eligible studies included case reports,case series,systematic reviews,and clinical trials involving rare or complex cases with MDT involvement.Non-peer-reviewed sources and anecdotal reports were excluded.Data extraction focused on MDT composition,decision-making processes,innovative interventions,and patient outcomes.Study quality was assessed using PRISMA guidelines.RESULTS Evidence demonstrates that MDTs enhance diagnostic accuracy,optimize treatment planning,and improve survival in oncology,cardiology,and neurology.Rare congenital anomalies and complex autoimmune disorders particularly benefit from cross-specialty collaboration.Innovative research achievements include genetic profiling for precision therapies,machine learning models predicting rare disease progression,and novel therapeutics such as immunotherapy and regenerative medicine.Case-based evidence highlights rare sarcomas,congenital heart defects,and atypical autoimmune syndromes,where early MDT involvement and integration of research findings yielded improved patient quality of life and clinical outcomes.CONCLUSION MDT-driven strategies,combined with innovative research,are transforming rare case management,advancing clinical medicine,and contributing to improved global health outcomes. 展开更多

Piperazine is a nitrogen-containing heterocyclic compound that is commonly used as an intermediate linking group in the structural derivation of compounds.Heterocyclic drugs containing piperazine have many commercial uses in medicine and are also used in pesticides.For example,the piperazine ring is a key structural element of the systemic fungicide Triforine.Piperazine is an attractive option because of its low acute toxicity to mammals,and it has become one of the hotspots of heterocyclic pesticide research in recent years.The pesticidal activity and mechanism of piperazine derivatives have been studied extensively.Herein,a comprehensive review of the research on the pesticidal bioactivity and mechanism of action of piperazine derivatives from 1971 to 2025 is presented.The agriculturally relevant antifungal,insecticidal,anti-plant virus,herbicidal,acaricidal,and antibacterial activities are discussed and the molecular mechanism of action of related piperazine derivatives is summarized.In addition,we also propose the future derivation direction of piperazine structures and look forward to the development of the anti-plant virus and anti-bacterial action mechanisms. 展开更多
