In view of the frequent deterioration of molten steel quality during the tundish filling process, the slag-steel-air interface behavior in a tundish, including liquid level fluctuation, slag eyes, slag entrapment and air suction during the steady-state casting and filling process, was comparatively studied through physical modeling and mathematical simulation methods.During the filling process, the liquid surface forms a large-size slag eye under the impact of molten steel from a ladle shroud, which simultaneously results in a violent fluctuation of liquid level.Concurrently, the liquid flow entrains the air phase and the cover slag into the tundish impact zone, resulting in slag entrapment and air suction. At filling flow rates of 1.5Q,2.0Q,and 2.5Q(Q is the flow rate under steady-state casting),the amount of slag entrapped is 8.39×10-5,9.65×10-5,and 12.7×10-5m3,respectively,while the volume of air aspirated is 0.84×10-4,1.47×10-4,and 2.01×10-4m3,indicating that slag entrapment and air suction intensify with an increase in tundish filling flow rate.Flow field characterization identifies eddy currents in the impact zone as the primary driver of the above phenomena.Proper filling process parameters were proposed to improve the steel quality during the tundish filling. 展开更多

Shale formations contain many pores 2-50 nm in size. These pores can make up more than 20%of the total pore volume. In such small pores, interactions between the pore walls and fluids cannot be ignored. This leads to significant confinement effects on the fluids.Alkanes are the main components of shale oil and gas.Their thermodynamic properties are key to understanding the distribution, efficient extraction, and industrial application of shale reserves. In this study,we used molecular simulations to study the phase behavior of methane,n-dodecane and n-eicosane in shale nanopores. We compared how chain length affects their phase behavior.First,we optimized the critical exponent values to improve the calculation accuracy of the critical parameters. To quantitatively evaluate confinement effects,we investigated the vapor-liquid equilibrium and critical properties of n-alkanes in nanopores with different pore sizes and geometries. The results show that in water-wet hydroxylated silica pores, the shifts in confined critical properties of n-alkanes do not exhibit a clear carbon chain length dependence.Based on the simulation results,we established predictive models for the critical properties of pure fluid. Finally, using a multicomponent shale oil reservoir as an example,we explored the influence of confinement effects on phase diagrams and the evolution of fluid component distribution during the pressure depletion process. 展开更多

Hydraulic fracturing serves as a critical technology for reservoir stimulation in deep coalbed methane(CBM)development, where the mechanical properties of gangue layers exert a significant control on fracture propagation behavior. To address the unclear mechanisms governing fracture penetration across coal-gangue interfaces, this study employs the Continuum-Discontinuum Element Method(CDEM)to simulate and analyze the vertical propagation of hydraulic fractures initiating within coal seams, based on geomechanical parameters derived from the deep Benxi Formation coal seams in the southeastern Ordos Basin. The investigation systematically examines the influence of geological and operational parameters on cross-interfacial fracture growth. Results demonstrate that vertical stress difference, elastic modulus contrast between coal and gangue layers, interfacial stress differential, and interfacial cohesion at coal-gangue interfaces are critical factors governing hydraulic fracture penetration through these interfaces.High vertical stress differences(>3 MPa)inhibit interfacial dilation, promoting predominant crosslayer fracture propagation.Reduced interfacial stress contrasts and enhanced interfacial cohesion facilitate fracture penetration across interfaces.Furthermore, smaller elastic modulus contrasts between coal and gangue correlate with increased interfacial aperture. Finally, lower injection rates effectively suppress vertical fracture propagation in deep coal reservoirs. This study elucidates the characteristics and mechanisms governing cross-layer fracture propagation in coal–rock composites with interbedded partings, and delineates the dynamic evolution laws and dominant controlling factors involved.Thefindings provide critical theoretical insights for the optimization of fracture design and the efficient development of deep coalbed methane reservoirs. 展开更多

In this study,a new linear friction welding(LFW)process, embedded LFW process, was put forward, which was mainly applied to combination manufacturing of long or overlong loadcarrying titanium alloy structural components in aircraft. The interfacial plastic flow behavior and bonding mechanism of this process were investigated by a developed coupling EulerianLagrangian numerical model using software ABAQUS and a novel thermo-physical simulation method with designed embedded hot compression specimen. In addition, the formation mechanism and control method of welding defects caused by uneven plastic flow were discussed. The results reveal that the plastic flow along oscillating direction of this process is even and sufficient. In the direction perpendicular to oscillation,thermo-plastic metals mainly flow downward along welding interface under coupling of shear stress and interfacial pressure, resulting in the interfacial plastic zone shown as an inverted“V”shape. The upward plastic flow in this direction is relatively weak, and only a small amount of flash is extruded from top of joint. Moreover, the wedge block and welding components at top of joint are always in un-steady friction stage, leading to nonuniform temperature field distribution and un-welded defects.According to the results of numerical simulation, high oscillating frequency combined with low pressure and small amplitude is considered as appropriate parameter selection scheme to improve the upward interfacial plastic flow at top of joint and suppress the un-welded defects. The results of thermo-physical simulation illustrate that continuous dynamic recrystallization(CDRX)induces the bonding of interface, accompanying by intense dislocation movement and creation of many low-angle grain boundaries. In the interfacial bonding area, grain orientation is random with relatively low texture density(5.0 mud)owing to CDRX. 展开更多

With the increasing availability of high-performance computing, artificial intelligence, and multi-scale simulation techniques, computational modelling is no longer limited to purely theoretical studies. It has now emerged as a practical design aid, allowing researchers to predict material behavior, understand complex interactions, and support engineering decisions across different material and structural scales. Pronounced compositional fluctuations in CrMnFeCoNi high-entropy alloys(HEAs)lead to variations of the stacking-fault energy(SFE),which dominates the dislocation behavior and mechanical properties. However, studies on the underlying dislocation behaviors and deformation mechanisms as a function of composition(Cr/Ni ratio)within CrMnFeCoNi HEAs are largely lacking, which hinders further understanding of the composition-structure-property relationships for the rational design of HEAs.Atomistic simulations were employed in this study to investigate the core structures and dynamic behaviors of a/2edge dislocations in non-equiatomic CrMnFeCoNi HEA,as well as its plasticity mechanisms. The results show that the core structure of a/2edge dislocations is planar after energy minimization, but with significant variations in the separation distance between two partial dislocations along the dislocation line owing to the complex local composition. The effects of the Cr/Ni ratio on the dislocation-solute interactions during dislocation gliding were calculated and discussed.Additionally, snapshots of dislocation motion under shear stress were analyzed. The observations indicate that the strengthening of the non-equiatomic CrMnFeCoNi HEA with increasing Cr concentration is not contributed by the expected solute/dislocation interactions, but the observed events of edge extended dislocation climbing through jog nucleation. The unusual but reasonable dislocation climbing phenomenon and the resultant strengthening observed in this study open extraordinary opportunities for obtaining outstanding mechanical properties in non-equiatomic CrMnFeCoNi HEAs by tailoring the compositional variations. 展开更多

With the aid of multi-agent based modeling approach to complex systems, the hierarchy simulation models of carrier-based aircraft catapult launch are developed. Ocean, carrier, aircraft, and atmosphere are treated as aggregation agents, the detailed components like catapult, landing gears, and disturbances are considered as meta-agents, which belong to their aggregation agent. Thus, the model with two layers is formed i.e. the aggregation agent layer and the meta-agent layer. The information communication among all agents is described. The meta-agents within one aggregation agent communicate with each other directly by information sharing, but the meta-agents, which belong to different aggregation agents exchange their information through the aggregation layer first, and then perceive it from the sharing environment, that is the aggregation agent. Thus, not only the hierarchy model is built, but also the environment perceived by each agent is specified. Meanwhile, the problem of balancing the independency of agent and the resource consumption brought by real-time communication within multi-agent system (MAS) is resolved. Each agent involved in carrier-based aircraft catapult launch is depicted, with considering the interaction within disturbed atmospheric environment and multiple motion bodies including carrier, aircraft, and landing gears. The models of reactive agents among them are derived based on tensors, and the perceived messages and inner frameworks of each agent are characterized. Finally, some results of a simulation instance are given. The simulation and modeling of dynamic system based on multi-agent system is of benefit to express physical concepts and logical hierarchy clearly and precisely. The system model can easily draw in kinds of other agents to achieve a precise simulation of more complex system. This modeling technique makes the complex integral dynamic equations of multibodies decompose into parallel operations of single agent, and it is convenient to expand, maintain, and reuse the program codes. 展开更多

Regional cities in Japan are at the risk of experiencing big fire accidents or earthquakes every day. However, neither the number nor the capacity of shelters has increased because local governments might not consider them owing to budget shortfall.By contrast,wide-area evacuation simulations can easily provide an antagonizing image of regional urban disasters. After a disaster, the city collapses and the evacuation routes are closed;consequently, evacuees feel anxious and they cannot move as usual. This anxiety behavior has not been considered in previous related studies and simulations. In this study,a wide-area evacuation simulation is developed;this model can not only calculate the possibility of blocking escape routes when the city is broken but also provide safe and more realistic evacuation plans before a disaster occurs by incorporating into the simulation the risk avoidance behaviors of evacuees from road blockage, such as“the route re-seeking behavior”and“the shelter re-selecting behavior”. 展开更多

The effects of temperature and Re content on the mechanical properties, dislocation morphology, and deformation mechanism of γ-γ′phases nickel-based single crystal superalloys are investigated by using the molecular dynamics method through the model of γ-γ′phases containing hole defect. The addition of Re makes the dislocation distribution tend towards the γ phase. The higher the Re content, the earlier theγphase yields, while the γ′phase yields later.Dislocation bends under the combined action of the applied force and the resistance of the Re atoms to form a bend point. The Re atoms are located at the bend points and strengthen the alloy by fixing the dislocation and preventing it from cutting the γ′phase.Dislocations nucleate first in the γ phase, causing theγphase to deform plastically before the γ′phase. As the strain increases, the dislocation length first remains unchanged, then increases rapidly, and finally fluctuates and changes. The dislocation lengths in the γ phase are larger than those in the γ′phase at different temperatures. The dislocation length shows a decreasing tendency with the increase of the temperature.Temperature can affect movement of the dislocation, and superalloys have different plastic deformation mechanisms at low, medium and high temperatures. 展开更多

We focus on using emergency exit signs to effectively guide the evacuation of people on a floor with a dynamically changing layout. A multi-agent simulation is developed to simulate the behavior of evacuees on a floor. A mathematical model is constructed to obtain optimal sign locations to efficiently assist evacuation under the condition that obstacles are dynamically generated on the floor. The optimal sign locations are calculated by the mathematical model. This paper investigates the influence of numerical methods and mesh resolution on the prediction accuracy of the aerodynamic behaviors of a 1/20 scaled generic high-speed train(HST)model.A thorough comparison is made between partially averaged Navier-Stokes(PANS),large eddy simulation(LES),and wind tunnel experiments, covering aerodynamic forces, surface pressure, velocity distribution, and Reynolds stress and turbulent kinetic energy in the wake region. The Reynolds number for both simulations and experiments is set to 4.75×105.The results show that the PANS approach accurately predicts flow characteristics observed in experiments and fine LES calculations, even with a low resolution grid.PANS exhibits a distinct advantage over LES when grid resolutions are insufficient for resolving near wall flow structures around the HST,both in open-air conditions and crosswind environments.Additionally, grid refinement improves the predictive accuracy of the HST's aerodynamic performance, particularly in the presence of small yaw angle. 展开更多

Different from the organization structure of complex projects in Western countries, the Liang Zong hierarchical organization structure of complex projects in China has two different chains, the chief-engineer chain and the general-director chain,to handle the trade-off between technical and management decisions. However, previous works on organization search have mainly focused on the single-chain hierarchical organization in which all decisions are regarded as homogeneous. The heterogeneity and the interdependency between technical decisions and management decisions have been neglected. A two-chain hierarchical organization structure mapped from a real complex project is constructed. Then, a discrete decision model for a Liang Zong two-chain hierarchical organization in an NK model framework is proposed. This model proves that this kind of organization structure can reduce the search space by a large amount and that the search process should reach a final stable state more quickly. For a more complicated decision mechanism, a multi-agent simulation based on the above NK model is used to explore the effect of the two-chain organization structure on the speed, stability, and performance of the search process. The results provide three insights into how, compared with the single-chain hierarchical organization, the two-chain organization can improve the search process: it can reduce the number of iterations efficiently; the search is more stable because the search space is a smoother hill-like fitness landscape; in general, the search performance can be improved. However, when the organization structure is very complicated, the performance of a two-chain organization is inferior to that of a single-chain organization. These findings about the efficiency of the unique Chinese-style organization structure can be used to guide organization design for complex projects. 展开更多

Dynamic modeling and numerical simulation of hydrate slurry flow behavior are of great importance to offshore hydrate management. For this purpose, a dynamic model of hydrate agglomeration was proposed in this paper.Based on population balance equation, the frame of the dynamic model was established first, which took both hydrate agglomeration and hydrate breakage into consideration. Then, the calculating methods of four key parameters involved in the dynamic model were given according to hydrate agglomeration dynamics. The four key parameters are collision frequency, agglomeration efficiency, breakage frequency and the size distribution of sub particles resulting from particle breakage. After the whole dynamic model was built, it was combined with several traditional solid–liquid flow models and then together solved by the CFD software FLUENT 14.5.Finally, using this method, the influences of flow rate and hydrate volume fraction on hydrate particle size distribution, hydrate volume concentration distribution and pipeline pressure drop were simulated and analyzed. 展开更多
