Self-excited longitudinal combustion instabilities were investigated in a hypergolic liquid bipropellant combustor, which applied single dual-swirl coaxial injector. Hot-fire tests were conducted for four different injector geometries, while extensive tests on injection conditions were carried out for each injector geometry. The synchronous measurement of the pressure and heat release rate was applied, successfully capturing the process of the pressure and heat release rate enhanced coupling and developing into in-phase oscillation. By calculating Rayleigh index at the head and middle section of the chamber, it is shown that Rayleigh index of the middle section is even higher than that of the head, indicating a long heat release zone. When the combustion instability occurs, the pressure in propellant manifolds also oscillates with the same frequency and lags behind the oscillation in the combustor. Compared to the oscillation in the outer injector manifold, the oscillation in the inner injector manifold shows a higher correlation with that in the chamber in amplitude and phase. Based on numerical simulations of the multiphase cold flow inside the injector and combustion process in the chamber, it is found that injector geometries affect longitudinal combustion instability by changing spray cone angle. The spray with small cone angle is more sensitive to the modulation of longitudinal pressure wave in combustion simulations, which is more likely to excite the longitudinal combustion instability. Meanwhile, the combustion instability may be related to the pulsating coherent structure generated by the spray fluctuation, which is determined by injection conditions. Besides, a positive feedback closed-loop system associated with the active fluctuation and passive oscillation of the spray is believed to excite and sustain the longitudinal combustion instability. 展开更多

Signal-induced noise(SIN) in a photomultiplier tube(PMT) introduces bias into the Na density results that are retrieved from the backscattered signals of Na resonance fluorescence lidar systems. The response characteristics of a PMT when stimulated by a series of light pulses with a fixed width of 1 μs are therefore used to develop a precise SIN model to estimate the relative error caused by SIN. Unless the strong signals that are returned from the lower atmosphere are excluded, the measured density results are always smaller than the actual values, and the resulting relative error may be 50% or more. Three potential solutions to reduce the SIN were quantified for comparison, including use of a chopper system, use of a gated circuit, and separation of the laser beam and the telescope receiver. When optimized parameters are used for these technologies, the relative error can then be reduced to less than 2%. 展开更多

Background In this study,three sample detectors have been prepared by using cerium-activated YAG nanoscintillator(Y3Al5O12:Ce3+)synthesized by sol-gel method and heat-treat at 900°C for 2 h in different atmospheres such as vacuum,air and nitrogen.Purpose Many studies about YAG:Ce3+single crystal have been carried out,but the material at the nanoscale remains not enough understood.The objective of the present paper is to investigate the effects of annealing atmosphere on the scintillation properties and identify the suitable atmosphere that allow to design radiation detectors with high scintillation efficiency.Methods In order to accurately assess the scintillation properties,the nanoscintillator sample powders have been designed as a detector,in which,preparation operations such as surface homogenization and efficiency coupling with photomultiplier tube(PMT)window were developed.The study was performed usingγ-rays 662 keV released from137Cs radioactive source,the bi-alkali GDB-4FF PMT was used as a photodetector.Nuclear instrumentation chain was set up in order to collect the pulse height spectra,NaI:Tl single-crystal scintillator was used as a reference detector to estimate the scintillation light yield.The delayed coincidence method was used for measuring the scintillation decay time of nanoscintillator sample detectors.Results The sample detector annealed at vacuum atmosphere exhibits the best scintillation properties,the scintillation light yield was estimated to be 14,600±3400 ph/MeV and the fast component in the scintillation decay was 90 ns.Conclusion The vacuum is the suitable atmosphere which allows the development of radiation detectors with high scintillation efficiency. 展开更多
