Nonlinear optical(NLO)materials play an increasingly important role in laser technology.Birefringence is one of the most important parameters for NLO materials to realize angle phase-matching conditions.In comparison ...Nonlinear optical(NLO)materials play an increasingly important role in laser technology.Birefringence is one of the most important parameters for NLO materials to realize angle phase-matching conditions.In comparison with other desirable optical properties,the availability of birefringence and refractive index dispersion is especially problematic owing to the strict requirements for single crystals.In this review,we described how to obtain the refractive index and birefringence of NLO materials from crystals sub-millimeters to centimeters in size.Espe-cially,recently developed methods including the minimum deflection angle method,auto-collimation method,prism coupling method,oil immersion technique,interference color method,and theoretical calculation(DFT)for rapid assessment of birefringence are summarized,the contents of which are mainly focused on the principles and typical applications,together with the advantages and drawbacks.In addition,representative examples of bire-fringent measurements were presented.The purpose of this work is to provide a useful perspective on the characterization of birefringence for NLO materials.It is hoped that this review can give a clear description of the birefringence measurements and accelerate the discovery of new NLO crystals.展开更多
Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),characterized by insulin resistance and hyperglycemia,urgently requires novel therapeutic strategies.In this study,we shortlisted a hypoglycemic strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum R6-3...Type 2 diabetes mellitus(T2DM),characterized by insulin resistance and hyperglycemia,urgently requires novel therapeutic strategies.In this study,we shortlisted a hypoglycemic strain Lactiplantibacillus plantarum R6-3 from Sayram ketteki-derived probiotics.Using a diabetic mouse model,we then investigated the hypoglycemic mechanisms of R6-3 and its postbiotic derivative P-R6-3.Both interventions significantly enriched intestinal short-chain fatty acids-producing bacteria and regulated T2DM-related genes.At week 15,compared with the DC group,mice in R6-3 group exhibited a 37%reduction in fasting blood glucose(FBG),a 33.04%increase in fasting insulin(FINS),and a 29.78%increase in glucagon-like peptide-1(GLP-1),while the P-R6-3 group showed a 27.15%reduction in FBG,an 18.73%increase in FINS,and a 22.28%increase in GLP-1.Notably,R6-3 could restore intestinal barrier integrity by upregulating tight junction proteins,reducing serum lipopolysaccharide and pro-inflammatory cytokines.These results revealed distinct mechanisms between probiotic and postbiotic therapies:both improved glucose metabolism through activating the gut microbiota-GLP-1-muscle/adipose/liver axis,but only R6-3 showed a tendency towards intestinal barrier and metabolic inflammation repair.Collec-tively,our results suggested the long-term hypoglycemic effects of R6-3 and P-R6-3 in T2DM mice,which de-serves further validation through clinical trials in the future.展开更多
The guts of young humans and animals are abundant in various beneficial bacteria,and certain probiotics have a remarkable blood glucose-regulating impact on diabetic mice.This study adopts a novel approach based on th...The guts of young humans and animals are abundant in various beneficial bacteria,and certain probiotics have a remarkable blood glucose-regulating impact on diabetic mice.This study adopts a novel approach based on the separation and purification after prebiotics enrich probiotics entering the stable stage to explore synbiotics,which is more rapid and circumvents difficulties such as difficult intestinal entry,long time consumption,and challenges in finding matching synbiotics.Through measuring the inhibitory activity onα-glucosidase andα-amylase in vitro and its probiotic characteristics,Lactobacillus gasseri Y11 is screened and identified.Utilizing a high-fat diet combined with streptozotocin to establish a diabetic mouse model,the hypoglycemic mechanism of synbiotics in type 2 diabetic mice is investigated.The association between the gut microbiota and serum indices and genes is analyzed using the Mantel test and Spearman correlation analysis.The findings indicate that different intervention groups can ameliorate body weight and HDL-C,and reduce FBG,TG,TC,LDL-C,HbA1C,INS,HOMA-IR,and QUICK1 levels,enhancing blood glucose homeostasis,blood lipid levels,and insulin sensi-tivity of mice,and regulating the expression of genes like GIP,GLP-1,PPARγ,PEPCK,G6PASE,MTOR-S6K1,and GLUT-2 in the ileum and liver.Additionally,16S rRNA gene sequencing is employed to analyze the gut microbiota.In the Synbiotics group,the relative abundance of Bifidobacterium and Akkermansia is increased.In summary,this study devises a new synbiotics screening strategy,explores its potential in treating type 2 diabetes,and provides a new research direction for the anti-diabetic mechanism.展开更多
